On Monday the 14th of this month at 9.30pm, my wife and I were travelling home from Sydney to Kiama area. When we got to Lucas Height (near the Menai tip) We noticed a guy parked on the other side of the road flashing us. We looked at each other thinking it was a warning for cops. We looked back at the road and notice a solid block of concrete about the size of a cinder block sitting in front of us. Travelling at 80k's I didn't have time to swerve and ened up running straight over it. We pulled up and an older lady hit it just a few seconds before us which wrecked both her left wheels. The young guy was trying to move it after clipping it himself but we came along to soon.
My gut reaction was I destroyed the sump and the transmission but the car was ok. Took a bit of a gash out of the chassis rail and pushed the drivers side exhaust up into the floor and left a few dings in the drives side cat and exhaust pipe. I had the smash repairers look at it and an $85 repair the the exhaust and it's all ok. But it missed the fuel lines by 2mm and the trans oil pan by 2cm
Here's where it starts to get interesting. Back at work today after two weeks off and I was telling one of my work mates about it. Then he tells me the exact same thing happend to his girlfriends brother on the same stretch of road on Friday night just gone. Except this time the guy was driving a Merc limo and the block of concrete was about 100kg. He's still waiting to see of the Merc is a write off.
When it happened to me I thought it may have fallen off a truck being near the tip but to happen in the exact same spot nearly two weeks later would indicate that someone is placing these blocks of concrete in the middle of the road on purpose. That particular stretch of road is pitch black at nght and by the time anything comes into view of the headlights it's too late. So anyone travelling along there at night be careful.
Car theives should be treated just like horse theives and cattle rustlers in the days of the wild west... Hang them!
Don't be stupid. Power isn't measured by the size of your tacho
is the road used for illegal drags, or speeding sounds like someone putting the concrete there to try and stop these activites
The Mad Dutchman
anyone who does that is a ****ing idiot who deserves to get their head smashed in.
No. Not used for drags and there's no houses around there for miles. Either side of the road is pretty much bush.
