so this is my first post on this forum, i have just picked up a vt ss with a 5ltr in it, it seems like a good car, not over powering, and has a nice note to it.
i was just curious to see what others on here thought about other makes of cars? majority of my friends (im 20 almost 21) have jap cars and although i dont mind some of them i prefer my holdens. mainly because i like the sound of a healthy v8, not interested in going woosh bang haha
and although this is a holden forum do you guys appreciate nice fords aswell? ive seen a couple of nice older falcons getting around and a couple of new ones, was lucky enough to go for a spin in a 330rwkw ba xr6t and that was impressive. and i got absolutly served by a blue au xr8 and those are only 5ltr's so did ford have a better 5ltr than holdens?
i dont mean to start an argument about what is better, just curious to see if people can admire other cars or are they one eyes holden supporters?
ford have a good product.
the au come's in two size's 5.0 and 5.7 stroker,
185~200~220 kw respectivly.
your 5.0 is around 165kw unless hsv varient.

I don't like much from Japan but the new GTR is AMAZING! I'd have one if money was no object but all that power can only be used properly on a track. My HSV is a good compromise between a nice practicle family car that I can drive anyware as sedately as I want as well as being a bit of a weapon when I want it to be.
Yes I know that is subjective
On the other hand, if I was in the market to downsize my car, the VW Golf GTI would be my pick. Who knows, if Australia ever introduces a similar tax system to what my Dad has to put up with in Denmark, I'll be driving a Golf. For a car with similar weight, performance, emitions and capacity as mine, in Denmark, would cost approximately $2000 a quarter in weight tax, another $1000 in engine tax (emitions + capacity) and that has been converted into Aussie denero too!!! So $12,000 in taxes a year, plus registration, plus insurance...
From what I just read a standard AU series 2 V8 had 175kw and weighed about 1570kg, this is lighter then a VT SS and has roughly 10 more kw, So I would not be surprised if the falcon beat the SS, ben.
Im a big hater of japanese cars but I make exceptions to those that deserve it. Toyota Supra's, Nissan Skyline GTR's (especially the new GTR), Mitsubishi Lancer Evo's and Subaru WRX's (and STi's) although the latest model can stay in JapanI personally also own a MY96 Subaru liberty and find it to be a great little car and I love the subaru AWD.
As for Ford, i'd rather a Ford than a japanese or foreign car because at the end of the day they are still Australian! The fords of old (351 GT's, GTHO) were great but Ford had a long stretch of terrible cars (and no V8!). But since the BA, Ford have had a great product and this continues with the new FG falcon. In the 6 cylinder market they are well ahead of Holden, and the straight 6 turbo is an incredible engine that even the LS2 doesn't have an answer for at the moment. The Ford 6 speed auto is also great to drive, much nicer than Holdens equivalent. However, I still believe Holden has the better product as long as it comes with a 6L under the bonnet (fords V8 is a shocker, even with the current 290kw XR8).
I reckon most manufacturers have half-way decent models, and every manufacturer has a dud part on an otherwise decent model.
in respect to the ford comments, I like the BA/BF XR6 (never driven a turbo model though) and I love the early X series, but hate XD-AU inclusive. no idea why, but I do. I've been caught a few times drooling over the panels of decent XY-XW's, but thankfully the owners were decent guys and didn't redecorate my skull.....
And while I'm here, I have absolutely ZERO respect for any car made in Korea. IMO It's cheap made crap, and with higher sales of cheap cars come higher crash rates and poorer sale/resale of aussie built-and-proven cars like commodores and falcons.
obviously this last point will cause a debate, but discussion is a healthy thing when emotions aren't brought in

I'm a huge Ford fan, everything pre AU. After the EL, Ford seemed to have lost the plot, although the BF XR series wasn't too bad. I appreciate all cars, no matter what the make, but my soul is a blue oval.
I've been a Holden fan for as long as I can remember, the first car that I absolutely thought kicked a$$ was the HSV VT GTS. Awesome looking and sounding car. However these days i'm definately considering a Ford next, something like the G6E Turbo perhaps? Very nice IMO.
I like bmw for the safety features. This coming mother's day would mark my 1 year anniversary since my last major accident and i can say that the safety features on the 320i did save my life. The build quality is par with merc and audi but i still prefer something smaller.
My dad's first car was a holden kingswood. so when i rolled up inthe driveway with the vx he was really pleased. Where i drive, holdens are a rare species of car but i'd rather be driving this car than most japanese models.
For the money i'd take the new GTR, the supra and the WRX sti. I dont like the styling of the new evo X, but the smaller mazda 3 model sure looks 'cute'
VT SS 5L has 185 or 195kw from memory, the 165kw was back in the VS 5L with the VS clubbys running 185kw stock or GTS running 215kw in the stroked 5.7L, although my VS calais eco beat a VTSS 5L...
as with the AU v8's the above is correct , the AU XR8's dont go that good tho...i know a few ppl with stock BA XR6's that beat the 220kw XR8 rebels have seen it myself...
Back to topic, the only jap cars id buy would be a lexus, or a Land Cruiser etc...other than that i like the german cars.
the bmw that has caught my eyes is the 335i, twin turbo 6 cyl...they have serious power and are pretty quick for a small 6, sound good too...
that said, i would take a XR6T/Typhoon/G6E or LSx over them anyday....cant beat the sound of a nice LSx engine![]()
VT SS 5L was 179kw and the HSV varient 195kw, then the series 2 was GEN 3 LS1 220kw.
I would like a few cars from other brands
68 Mustang Fastback (dream car)
The Mazda 6 isn't to bad for a mid size car
The M5 is a beast from BMW
I have an EF Series 2 Ghia which is a good car (XR6running gear)
I love my Calais to bits (would love a manual box even better), but I don't think they are the best cars in the world. they are made to a price and do the job well. In the end every car has its faults.
50LTRv8
I like all cars that a modified tastefully.
However,m the only thing a VT 5L is good for is a motor transplant

im not brand bias, if the car is right for my needs i would own it. i would prefer holden but if the right ford at the right price came along i would buy it (funds permitting)
agreed. i dont see why people can say 'man, fords are sht, holdens are sht...' when each car has its own unique qualitys. i mean, lets face it... each (and every) car manufacturer has had their disasters but they have also done exactly the opposite and blind, one track minds cat see that
You're a tool on the LS1 forum, you're a tool here...
I couldn't give a **** if I can't spell 100% correctly. Sometimes it's just a typo and sometimes I really just don't care. Who made you the spelling police?
ESL? Born and bread Aussie mate. I can't speak any other languages other than English
At least I don't use that friggin sms shorthand so many people insist on using these days. Or alternate lower case and upper case! Those two things **** me to tears...
For the most part, I spell fine and couldn't give a **** what you think. So how about you just **** off? ey? Did I spell that right for ya?

ive got a blue au xr8, 220kw version, 5speed manual decent exhaust. do have custom tunes done but i havnt had them running for a while to keep the fuel down. with custom tunes it puts my rwkw to 202.4, at the moment ive got around 185rwkw.
i prefer fords, but i also like any car that the owner has put time and effort in. i used to ride shotgun in my mates vn executive for every cruise we went on and his car is a tough looking car no doubt about it. my mate from work is into 180sx's, and i never used to like them but his is alot quicker than my car and is only at around 170rwkw. i went in his car in the hills whoa i was amazed at how he can throw it around were my heavy car were understeer.
i am open to all cars, as long as they are done up with taste, went on the charity cruise for nissansilvia the other night here in SA. and while most cars i had to laugh at (big supercheap spoilers on stock r31's) there were many cars that alot of time effort and money has gone into.
ah, its funny cos its true. you wouldnt buy a V8 post VS series if it didnt have an LS1 in it.
to the topic, i like all sorts of car. infact rotaries interest me quite alot, ive been in quite a few very quick ones like my brothers rx2 capella and they are crazy. mazda can make some alright cars - even the mazda 6 i borrow to drive when my VS is having work done to it is a good package.
never been a fan of fords except the old girls and the latest BA-onwards models, especially the typhoon...id have one, lol.
for a super reliable family sort of daily driver you seriously cant go past a toyota. they make really good cars. i learnt to drive in a '99 vienta (spec'd up camry really) and it was a great car - had some balls too! shame it was front wheel drive - but torque steer can be fun.
i dont mind some ricers - but hate the look of most modified ones...those rice boys just go to fast and furious on them. putting shopping lists and neons and huge cannons on them...they really just look stupid imo.
but ill admitt those 1jz and 2jz engines go pretty well (like i said -toyota go alright) with lots of boost in them and can make quite fast cars.
about the only ricer id realistically think about owning would be a 350z, i quite like the look and they handle and go really well. never was a fan of sylines though, some look and go ok, but not my thing.
Quagmire: My fellow Americans, I have not been entirely truthful with you. I did gagoogidy that girl. I gashmoygadied her gaflavity with my googus. And I am sorry.
2nd hand car wise, I think Holden would have to be one of the lower companies of which I'd buy a car from. Too many problems mechanically compared to others (not near as bad as some though).
From now on I don't think I'll be going anything other than Japanese.
Toyota would have to be the top of my list.

Ive always been a Holden fan and never much else. Then I took a R33 GTR for a flog,I then bought it
So Holden and Nissan for me,ya can stick ya Fords![]()
