ps3 or xbox360? Why?

OK so GTA 4 is out... When GTASA came out I bought a PS2 to play it and when I was done, I sold it.

This time, I doubt I'll sell it... Especially when GT5 comes out!!!

But after some advice, both positives and negatives, as to whether I should buy a ps3 or an xbox360. ps3 is a brd player as well so that's a HUGE plus for me right there. But what does everyone else think? When you take xbox live out of the equation, which one is better on its own merits?

im very tempted to buy a PS3 just so i can play GTA4 and GT5, very very tempted, but im sure the missus is going to kill me if i buy a PS3 and send her to qld on holidays by her self lol. So maybe at the end of the year, i dont care how late i play it aslong as i play it at some stage and get 99%+ finished score ill be happy.

Im in the exactly the same boat, we are even sharing seats lol. Im so tempted to buy a PS3 Bundle with a 40 gig PS3 with GTA 4, but I know the XBOX Pro 20 gig version with GTA 4 will be cheaper, whats the better deal?! They both have free online playing yeah? They both have Wireless internet capabilities yeah?

personally id go a PS3. the bluray does it for me, so does GT5. i am also a PS fan boy

i havent used an xbox nearly enough to give a decent opinion.. but i hate the controllers! they have a wider range of games but no GT5

PS3 and import the game aus has stuff cut out of the game no-one knows how much as far as i know apart from a video in the game. I would import the game on just the price though.

Can get the game in Australia for as little as $78. Factor in postage for an OS version and it's not as cheap. There is NO game play differences in the Aussie version so I'm not going to the hassle of importing.

Yeah the PS3 + GTA4 bundle is released Thursday for $749. I would still need the remote and HDMI cable.

im leaning towards a 360 personally, as i have an xbox now and it has always done me good, love the range of games and the controllers fit my hand awesomely. Im an xbox fan so ill be picking one up shortly, funds depending. I dont care enough for blu-ray as i have a dvd player and exceptional movie quality isnt really a big deal to me as i rarely watch movies, and ive played the other 1898900 gran turismos and had my fun with them.

each to thier own, just chucking my opinion in there on why i want a 360. what ive heard xbox live costs some minuscule amount, like 60 bucks a year a mate told me, but ps3 online is free, plus you can use bluetooth stuff, like mobile headsets for online communication etc etc.

a mate has also told me that xbox live has better server quality/speed/reliability compared to the ps3 one which he and others have experienced server issues. please confirm anyone?

they both have awesome games like gta 4, call of duty 4 etc, so i guess it comes down to whether you want the class and quality of blu-ray and the like, and if so i say the ps3 would be the go yes?

personally id go xbox 360 as im a fan of it, played it a few times.

well for starters here are a few differences

ps3/xbox

wireless internet: yes/yes but must pay for antenna cost $150
Controllers: wireless straight from the box can even charge from any mini usb device./when you buy it you get a set of energizers and have to buy the extra cable for about 15 bucks
high def: only comes with the standard 3 colour red,yellow,white/comes with the high def. ones composite thats what its called...
overheating: ps3 i have left on for days in a cupboard with no problems/im not sure but i have heard about the overheating problems

games: basically the same xbox has the halo series which i like. but for others gt5 has made them lean towards the ps3.

hard drive: replacable with a laptop hard drive/must be official xbox hard drive.

thats all i can think of at the moment.. want to know anything else just let me know..
as i have a ps3 and my mate has the xbox 360 in the loungeroom. so anything we want to play is easy.. haha hope it helps you with the choice.

I'm saying the 360 simply because of online play. From what I've heard there are still problems with the PS3's online play. And xbox live, well you just can't beat it, it's been around for a long time, there's never a problem finding a game, unless you're playing something unpopular.

Price. Well the xbox wins again.

Bluray, well PS3 there.

Overheating problems? Well the xbox 360 does suffer the RRoD error, but that shouldn't happen anymore, and if it does it's a short wait while you get it repaired for free.

I'd stick with the xbox if it was me.

What do your friends have, I find that would effect my decision a fair bit aswell, if all my friends only played ps3 online, I'd get a ps3, I like to be social and play with mates rather then random people I don't know. So the xbox it was.

Did you read my OP? If you don't factor in xbox live, what wins? None of my friends have a console... Mainly just PC gamers.

So far, PS3 is winning for me.

Yeah I read your OP, must have skipped that part though.

If you take out live, then I'd say PS3, and it wins solely because of GT5, the controllers are uncomfortable and Bluray isn't a necessary thing.

the ps3 with GT5-P was $730 at dick smiths ( also the last 40gb PS3 in southern adelaide atm supposdly, my sister got it for me as i had to work )

id go for the xbox 360 not only for the online gameplay, but mainly because u can use it as a windows media centre extender.
If your like me and have a windows meda centre pc, I use media centre for all my digital tv recording, burning, videos, movies, music and pictures. But quite often i wanawatch sumthing off the pc out in the lounge room. I got an xbox 360 for this reason, cos whatever's on my mdia centre pc can be streamed over my network to the xbox, so if im usin the pc for example, and my brother wants to watch season 12 of south park out on the telly, he can use the xbox to do so. The xbox basically is exactly the same as the media centre on the pc.
If i didnt havethe pc for use with all this stuff id prob go the ps3 tho

Bought a PS3 on sunday with hdmi cable, 2 controlers and 2 games. Bought GTA4 today and its awesome. Friday my 42" Plasma gets here so im pumped for that. I'd go the PS3 simply becuase of GT5 and blueray!! PS3 online is great also

i had both and sold my ps3 without opening it. After trying gt5 prologue i dont see what all the hype is about... forza 2 is just as good. Bluray is all well and good, but honestly who really used their ps2 to watch dvds anyway? ill just get a better standalone player. I chose 360 due to better games, better controllers and cheaper.. havent regretted it yet. Oh and gta4 is awesome
