A Msg For All Vic P Platers
Just a msg for all victorian drivers, i have just recieved confirmation from Vicroads about a change that will affect every1 that is on P plates atm:
Victoria’s new graduated licensing system is introducing new driver licensing rules. These new rules mean that a probationary driver will have to display either a red or green P plate.
If you obtained your probationary licence before 1 July 2008, you will have to change your P plate from red to green.
To make sure you receive your free green P plates, check that the address on your probationary licence card is your current address.
IMO green sucks lol. Red is better, after all it is the fastest colour. Wat do you guys reckon of this and all the new rules for new P platers?

Yes and no. Yes because it will reduce dick heads being tempted into doing dumb **** and no because it stops sensible drivers from going away on weekends with a couple of mates, instead have to take multiple cars and fuel isnt cheap!

Doesn't the passenger rule only apply to people AFTER July 1st?
People who got their P's BEFORE then JUST have to display the green p plates don't they?

Really the changes are pointless.
The P1 system is non existent if you are over 21 when you get your P's. This shows that Vicroads saying "the first 12 months of driving you are at the highest risk" is a crock of ****. If this were the case EVERY new driver regardless of age should have the same rules. What makes it even more fascinating is that only 1/4 of all fatal accidents in the first 12 months of accidents involve 2 or more passengers. Again it is just another pathetic band aid fix by a pathetic out of touch government. I believe the passenger limit is for those aged between 16 and 21. If you have 5 passengers that are 22 it's all good.
It is about time that they concentrate on training drivers for the road and not training them to pass a bloody test. That being said, a licence should be issued for 3 years and every 3 years a driving and comprehensive knowledge test should be undertaken for retraining in all age groups. Fail, you lose your licence or are dropped down to Probationary with restrictions.

Yeah i tend to agree.
I personally reckon a roadworthy must be carried out every 24 months for cars 10 years or older. Dont have to be as tight regulations as a roadworthy required when registering, but tight enough to get those death traps off the road.
I know its not really possible, but i would like to see some sort of car age limit, similar to japan. I mean they are saying that 18 year olds are really dangerous on the roads. Well in all fairness, they are probably driving the worst cars. Take most older drivers (30-50), they are probably driving cars which are less than 5 years old, with ABS, SRS etc. Whereas 18 year olds are driving old commodores, fords etc which are really death traps in comparison.

Haha... oh wow. That's such a messy system. Glad I'm in QLD now with an open licence at the age of 20
I don't know about a lot of drivers out there, but when I first got my licence at the age of 17, I was most dangerous when by myself out in the country at night. I was always sensible with passengers in the car, 'cause quite frankly, I didn't want to look like a dick.

So when I get my P's in May this year, I have to display green P's, but I don't have the passenger restrictions?

Yay for queensland lol. I'm not a fan of all these new laws because it puts everyone in the same group. I've had my licence for 3.5 years and i haven't had an accident although I have been done for speeding once but that was on my opens not on my p's. When i was on my p's i always had people in my car and if they told me to do something stupid i would tell them to **** off as i like having a licence.
Passenger restrictions will only stop the type of people that will do anything they are told ie. if they jumped off a bridge would you? etc yet it wont have an effect on the people who are tards all the time.

Why does the car have to be 10 years or over,it only takes a small amount of time for tyres to wear out and make a car dangerous.
Its not the car its the driver. If you have a well maintained older car it will be safe, yes it wont have the safety features that newer cars have but it can still be a safe car.
