    Default reading

The thread about BB really had me wondering does anyone hear read anymore?

I watch as little tv as possible. I'd much rather put on a cd and read a book. Currently I've just finished reading the lastest Repairman Jack novel and I'm about halfway through Lincoln Child and Douglas Preston's Cabinet of Curiosities with special FBI agent Pendergast. Oh, and Lee Child's Jack Reacher series is also worth picking up.

    Anybody else?

I read Just Commodores if that counts? lol.
I have only read one book by choice and it was "Suddenly one sunday" the martin briant story. It was the first week of the school holidays and i spent 4 days in bed reading, didnt go riding or out with my mates, just sat and read, the weirdest thing i've ever done, but that is a really good book. I dont have time to read anymore, only time i read a book is if im studying

I'd prefer to be outdoors than read or what bloody crap TV. If i do watch TV, i watch doco's on the Crime Investigation Channel or Discovery Channel.

Much rather be out in the fresh air.

I use to read heaps, but now days i just can't sit down and read, i usually need to be doing something. But when I do get the urge I read Dean Koontz, Clive Cussler and Mathew Riley.

My missus works for a public library, so if i need something i just text her and ask her to bring something home. She can read a book a night, and usually has 20 or so books at home at any one time, and then wonders why she can't find one that is overdue!! lol.

I read heaps. I read all the sad, and depressing stories. Like My Story by Dave Pelzer, Inheriting Jack by Kathy Webb & Chris Watson (?).

But I have just picked up Mao's Last Dancer, which is a little different to what I normally read. For some stupid reason it would seem I like to make myself cry lol.

One thing I can't do is read a book and then watch a movie based on the book, or watch a movie and then read the book. Very rarely do they follow the book, they'll use the concept of the book and title and that is usually as close as they get. they suck!!

The Bourne movies are not to far off the book. Adaptions can be hard. For me I still am yet to watch LOTR movies. I grew up reading LOTR and refuse to let my imagination be tampered with when I re-read the books.

LOTR are also one of the few very well done adaptations, you may or may not be a little disappointed (depending on how pedantic you are), but they are well worth the watch.

I was the same with "The lion the witch and the Wardrobe" now Narnia which I read as a kid same goes for "The Bridge to Terabithia".... But I recently watched them and yeah they were pretty good, but like I said I was a child, so my memory of the books were a bit feint, but I was expecting them to be very different.

I never read LOTR but watched the movies, and well your missing out, its bloody awesome, I have watched them all 2-3 times now, and LOTR is not the type of movie I would normally bother with, and I'm actually getting a tattoo of one of the horses in it (when I build up the guts).

Everyone I have spoken too has said LOTR movies ruined their books. They jumped all over the places, importance's from the books were left out etc. I'd rather not watch it knowing this is the case.

Ive just gotten into reading Mathew Riley, i'm up to scarecrow so far I'm impressed by Riley's talents in keeping the story entertaining at such a young age (for a writer).

Usually tho I read books written by older authors:

Stephen Donaldson the "Gap" series (really twisted but awesome writer!!)

Frank Herbert's Dune and the prequels that have been written by his son are pretty good also.

Lian Hearn Tales of the Otori, lotsa gr8 sword fights

David Eddings The belgariad and all the related books, was more when I was younger....

and prob my two favourite books are T.H White The once and future king (THE BEST King Arthur story period!) and Reave the Just which is a book of short stories by Stephen Donaldson.

All the usual stuff like Tolkien's Lord of the Rings and Douglas Adams Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy, again more so when I was younger but still if I had allittle more time wouldn't mind reading them again. Theres a few others but not really any noteworthy....

I used to read heaps but work and the cars keep me too busy

Thanks for the heads up of other great writers. If you like great Sword and axe action, have you tried David Gemmel?

    Ooh, I'm scared...-;

Style of story: epic, heroic fantasy (knight styled) with absolutely huge battles LOTR style.

I read for on average at least an hour each night.
Have read all the Mathew Riely books, along with all of Dr Karl Kruszelnicki's books.
Also might slip a magazine in the mix every now and then.
