NSW Transport Minister Michael Costa yesterday said good drivers with unrestricted licences will earn up to six extra merit points from February 1st next year as a part of a plan to encourage better and safer driving. Under the new plan, drivers with 12 points will be rewarded with up to six extra points in a bid to encourage responsible road habits. Motorists would earn two extra points after two years of "clean driving" and one extra point for each additional year , capped at a total of six new points, Mr Costa said. The plan would not apply to P-plate or learner drivers.
Great idea, brainless way to go about it. Holding an unmarked license does not make you a good driver. Avoiding speed cameras, red light cameras and police does not make you a good driver. Driving at 40 km/h in a 70 zone with an unmarked license also does not make you a good driver. Luck does not make you a good driver. If I sat here and thought about it for 10 minutes I could come up with 50 reasons to make you a bad driver without losing a single point off your license. Thats my opinion, what does everyone else think ?

Bit of a no brainer IMO can anyone else see the irony in it? Why would so called 'good drivers' need more pointsI have to agree that just because u have a clean licence it doesnt make u a good driver. Some of the worst drivers I know have clean records, they have just been very lucky to not get done yet- that and some of them have licences but just don't drive anymore so they have no opportunity to get booked.
Well I'm all for it. My only fine was speeding over 10 years ago, haven't had a prang that's my fault, and I do over 50,000km a year, so on a per-capita basis I reckon I do pretty good.
so by 2014 there will be people driving around with 26 points? sweet, they could do 300 km/h and still get away with having a licence

do these people get paid for thinking up of these ideas? why would a good driver want more points????would all the hoons be good for a few years to gain extra points then go to town? thats the only good point i can think of.
LOL it would help if u read it properly, it said it would be capped at 6 extra pointsOriginally Posted by VSUTE
so that would make a maximum of 18
I haven't done too bad , for an old fart....I had a QLD licence years ago, it was given to me by the Camooweal copper, Pat Wilson..he got sick of me riding around on my Triumph 650 with no brief, so he told me to bring a six pak up to the station next day...and he gave me a licence to drive everything....later I had moved south, and had no vehicle, so I let the licence expire......years later, I am back in QLD...(way too cold down south, I'm afraid )...and get a learners permit...was allowed to have an alcohol level, because of my age, and the fact that my previous licence had expired, not taken off me....didn't have to have "L" plates.....and when I finally went and got me licence proper, I didn't have to sport "P"plates...then, I lost 1 point for having a slightly bald rear tyre on my "Charriot"....the old HJ wagon I drove around Mackay for 7 years or so..(it was about the most unroadworthy car in Mackay, but about the MOST roadworthy, in Cooktown!!!!!!!!!!)....lol...the way I figure, cops are OK..it's just the few power crazed ones that we all whinge about....imagine if there was no cops......we'd probably have the Hells Angels or something in power then....(not that they are bad blokes..I know quite a few of them, and other motorcycle Patch wearers......Rebels, Outlaws,Odins Warriors.....and they are all cool as people..)..........
I have quite a few of my sons friends come to visit at our house here...and a few of them have very few, if any , points left, and that's if they even have their licences , still!!!!so...I personally can't see the advantage of giving good drivers more points....I've still got all mine!!and when I go for a (God forbid!!!) job interview, I take a printout of my driving record from Motor Reg....and usually get the job.......(despite the long hair, beard , tattoos etc...lol..)....when I was 14 & 1/2 , I could reverse my bosses old Bedford truck, with a tandem trailer, and a single wheel trailer behind that, fully loaded with hay bales, into any bay in the several haysheds he had on his farms ....so I think I am a pretty good driver...(except for the old lady I backed into 1 day, but that was her fault for running across the road, in my blind spot , and she wasn't badly hurt, thank goodness....I broke her umbrella and her jar of Vegimite, both of which I replaced the next day, with a better brolly, and a bigger jar..... ).....her husband fair ripped it up her...lol..if it wasn't so terrible an event, it would have been funny....when I do the odd days work for this Lawnmowing Service me son works for, I am always the one to drive the Dyna........the boss always warns me............"When you are reversing, you can't see the trailer"..............and I reply......."yea John, I see it if I'm off course..............but I don't see it often......"......I can reverse the trailer of Johns into where they normally PUSH it by hand in his front yard/driveway ....lol...........pissses them all off, too...lol...

12 points is enough for me
the last time i lost points was in 1994
so an extra 6 points for myself would mean jackshit
i reckon discounts on rego or something would be a better reward
d'oh, i thought it meant that when you get to the stage where you are getting a point a year that they stop that at 6 years/6 points on top of what else you already got... if you get meOriginally Posted by Julie
