Letter from the cops
I got a letter from the Police today saying that a member of the public has dobbed me in for using my mobile while driving! The law is the law and I know you cant even have the phone in your hands these days, but........whats sort of a loser would call the poilce to dobb on someone!
The letter said that they cant do anything about it as they dont know if it is true, the letter said, the police just want to remind me of the importance of safe driving!
I think it is bull****. It could have been anyone who caleld them e.g. enemies, ex-girl friends old mates etc.
Has anyone had this letter before!??

Nope. But hence why this "dob in a hoon" thing is stupid. They have no proof and it's a waste of money. If people were able to take video footage and send it in to "dob in a hoon" it would be perfect, but since you can't drive and video tape at the same time, and the hoon hotline is just for dobbing in people and giving plate numbers, it's useless IMO. I could dob everyone on here in and vice versa, nothing could be done because it's all heresay.

Have called the cops a couple of times because of the tosser near us taking his crapheap sideways around the corner in front of our place. He puts us in danger.
Mobile phone users put people in danger.
I report litterers on a regular occasion because they are damaging the environment which i reside in.
I'm yet to report a mobile phone user but have seen people do some pretty dumb things because they are preoccupied with the phonecall.
Are you calling me a loser?
The law is there for a reason. If you weren't using the phone good! if you were, do you think you are above the law?
Good on them i say.

I have no problem with people dobbing, as long as it is needed and not someone being petty.
However I do think it is open to being abused if someone is seeking revenge on a person.

I agree with you there vlv8, it's not a stupid thing this person did for dobbing in someone breaking the law, i just think the dob in line is silly as it brings no justice as usually, no proof can be brought forward for a conviction.

No I am not calling you a loser.
I have a GPS in my car which I use every day for handsfree calling. For my job I am i nthe car all day long. I am no angel but I bet I was not talking on the phone. Who is to say I wasnt just checking the time or the date!!?? But I know its still the law to even have the phone in your hand like I said.
I still think it is crap, what a waste of time and resources for the Police sending out letters all day long cos losers have nothing better to do!!

my point is it can easily be abused, I almost called up today to argue the point and see if they would give me the details of the person who dobbed me in. I know that mates of mine would even possible do this just for a laugh and a storey to tell at the pub!

I had to drive off the side of the road today on my way to Willung to avoid a truck comming at me - yep talking on his phone. He was only over a little bit but got the heart rate up. Big trucks on my side scare me lots.
DONT DRIVE AND TALK ON THE BLUDY PHONE!!!!

it isn't just talking on the phone though. it is 'operating a mobile phone' i thought. so checking the time and date might possibly be a no-no.

Some people may see it as a huge thing, some people may not. Guess you just caught one of the people who see's it as a big thing. Which is fair enough too. Even checking time and date can be enough for you to lose concentration. Taking your eyes off the road for more than 2 seconds can be enough.

I agree with everyone on here, but does anyone agree with the point that is is a waster of time and resources for the police to send letter when they dont even personally know the person who is doing the dobbing! If I was talking on the phone I would just accept it and be thankful I didnt get a fine or pulled over by the cops and loose 3 points.
All I am saying is, its is SO OPEN TO ABUSE its not funny
