I got a letter from the Police today saying that a member of the public has dobbed me in for using my mobile while driving! The law is the law and I know you cant even have the phone in your hands these days, but........whats sort of a loser would call the poilce to dobb on someone!
The letter said that they cant do anything about it as they dont know if it is true, the letter said, the police just want to remind me of the importance of safe driving!
I think it is bull****. It could have been anyone who caleld them e.g. enemies, ex-girl friends old mates etc.
Has anyone had this letter before!??
Matt
Nope. But hence why this "dob in a hoon" thing is stupid. They have no proof and it's a waste of money. If people were able to take video footage and send it in to "dob in a hoon" it would be perfect, but since you can't drive and video tape at the same time, and the hoon hotline is just for dobbing in people and giving plate numbers, it's useless IMO. I could dob everyone on here in and vice versa, nothing could be done because it's all heresay.

Mobile phone users put people in danger.
I report litterers on a regular occasion because they are damaging the environment which i reside in.
I'm yet to report a mobile phone user but have seen people do some pretty dumb things because they are preoccupied with the phonecall.
Are you calling me a loser?
The law is there for a reason. If you weren't using the phone good! if you were, do you think you are above the law?
Good on them i say.
I agree with you there vlv8, it's not a stupid thing this person did for dobbing in someone breaking the law, i just think the dob in line is silly as it brings no justice as usually, no proof can be brought forward for a conviction.

Who is to say I wasnt just checking the time or the date!!?? But I know its still the law to even have the phone in your hand like I said.
I still think it is crap, what a waste of time and resources for the Police sending out letters all day long cos losers have nothing better to do!!
my point is it can easily be abused, I almost called up today to argue the point and see if they would give me the details of the person who dobbed me in. I know that mates of mine would even possible do this just for a laugh and a storey to tell at the pub!
Nobody likes a dobber!!!!

I had to drive off the side of the road today on my way to Willung to avoid a truck comming at me - yep talking on his phone. He was only over a little bit but got the heart rate up. Big trucks on my side scare me lots.
DONT DRIVE AND TALK ON THE BLUDY PHONE!!!!

Mate I agree with you, yes dont drive and talk on the phone. But my point is about the dibber dobbers and the fact that it can be abused!
it isn't just talking on the phone though. it is 'operating a mobile phone' i thought. so checking the time and date might possibly be a no-no.
checking the time and date is a no no!!!! But my point is why would you dob just for that! Some people have nothing better to do!
Some people may see it as a huge thing, some people may not. Guess you just caught one of the people who see's it as a big thing. Which is fair enough too. Even checking time and date can be enough for you to lose concentration. Taking your eyes off the road for more than 2 seconds can be enough.

All I am saying is, its is SO OPEN TO ABUSE its not funny

"No, I'm not a pessimist. At some point the world shits on everybody. Pretending it ain't shit makes you an idiot, not an optimist."
I'd love to think that one 15 cent phone call and one 45cent letter, liek the one you got, might be enough to turn one idiot away from doing the wrong thing which might save one persons life.
A long shot but just one would be worthwhile.
are you calling me an idiot now!?
No, didn't we already establish that you were doing nothing wrong?
I got a knock on my door back in 2000/2001. Can't remember the date exactly. I had an agressive drive home wihtout breaking laws. I just accelerated hard and went past people at the speed limit through lights that had just gone green.
I had to beep at one point cause some old codger put his indicator on and started merging all at the same time without checking. I wasn't speeding - he was just going a lot slower than me. He swerved back into his lane.
About 20 min. after I got home, "knock knock".
Was two cops... My car was in the garage too by the way. They started asking some random questions. When I interupted with "why are you here?" they told me someone reported me driving dangerously. I asked for proof and when they had none, shut the door. They just left.
****in Police intimidation! Don't put up with it mate... They need proof. If they don't have it, laugh in their face![]()
did you remind the police that dibber dobbers wear pink nappies?
Cool, well I think this topic could go around and around.
It has some merrit. We were following some assclown and he was driving like a moron so i got my phone out and recorded it and told the cops and submitted the footage and got the jackoff in trouble.
Now, i wont lie, everyone does the occasional foibles, but some people are so dangerous they have to be removed.
I think it is great police are trying to be pro active and warning people about illegal activities. Nothing bad has happened, you have been warned, deal with it and move on. This should happen more across the board. Perhaps it would wake people up a little.
As for mobile phones, I personally think they should be banned from being TURNED ON in a vehicle that is running. We lived without them for thousands of years, I am sure we can live without them still, I personally turn mine off when I drive, I do not need another distraction, the hundreds of idiot drivers is enough for me.

My car has built in hands free that connects and disconnects from my phone automatically when I turn the car on or off. I can make calls and receive calls without taking my hands off the wheel or my phone out of my pocket.
SMS is just a waste of time. I still can't understand people that are FOREVER sending SMS messages? Got something to say, call the person. Or even go and catch up IN PERSON!!!
SMS is the biggest rip off. 30 cents to send what? 120 characters of text?
