Mobile phone use has to be the single most ignorant aspect of people's everyday behaviour.
Why is it when someone's mobile phone rings, wether it be when you're having an in depth converstaion with someone, in a queue in bank even when dealing with the teller they will just stop and answer it? And what about those dolts who think they're by themselves in an open field when they're talking on their phone: 'YEAH, I'LL MEET YOU AT THE.... ' Or how about the knobs who still leave their phone switched on at the movies...?
Not to mention the fact that smsing is murdering the English language.
All flames excepted gracefully...now commence firing gentlemen, oh and ladies![]()
I don't stop dead in the middle of something and answer my phone. If i am in the middle of something, i'll reject the call and continue with what i am doing. If they keep ringing back whilst i am busy, i'll answer, tell them i'll call back later, and hang up. I hate going to the cinema's anyway and my sms's are always like 4 messages long as i don't abbreviate. Usually i'll just make a call instead. I'll sms if need be.

I hate people who send abbreviated messages, it isnt quicker to write, i have actually seen mates right the correct word, think about it, delete it and right it in abbreviated terms.. e.g mate = m8. I write alot of messages, its how me and my girlfriend communicate through the day when we are at Tafe/uni etc, but i never abbreviated words, i even use full punctuation. Its so quick to send a message just turn predictive text on and have the correct spelt words in the phone not all this abbreviated crap.

The most frustrating thing for me is when someone calls me at work ( a customer) and then they get a call on their mobile and want me to hold on !!!
There calling me cause THEY want something and they expect me to hold, haha no.
Im often way to busy and if they say anything more than "I will call you back" to the person on the mobile I will hang up.
SMS does not bother me as long as the msg is not stupidly hard to decipher.
I do find it redundant though as the dictionary's in phones make things very quick and easy.
i friggen hate it when some prick bastard answers his mobile when your taking his order (im a waiter, at a good/respected restaurant)
You will be in the middle of saying "so sir that was the candied oyst" RING RING "oh g'day mate, blah blah blah" ****, cant they wait!!!
yeah, thats annoying as hell when your trying to talk to someone or serve them and they answer their phone - im in sales and ive had a few times where someone on a wireless headset has answered their phone (without me actually realising whats going on) and they have started talking and confused the **** out of me.
at the VERY LEAST, they could say "excuse me i gotta take this call" and step away. but they dont, they just stand there talking and try to continue both listening to me and talking on their phone.
most of the time i just say - look your obviously busy ill be over here when your done.
i agree with the comment of sms destroying english as well, i mean im no angel with spelling and grammar but i make a ****ing effort not to sound like a retard if i am writing or typing something. i loose all respect for people who write in sms style outside of a mobile sms message....ive even seen it on god damn resumes' handed in to me before -
alot of young people/kids these days have atrocious spelling and grammar, its a real worry.
i just hope what they say about mobiles is true and all those people who have one glued to their head 24/7 get malignant brain tumours - malicious i know, but **** 'em, the rude pricks.
Quagmire: My fellow Americans, I have not been entirely truthful with you. I did gagoogidy that girl. I gashmoygadied her gaflavity with my googus. And I am sorry.
It's the way of the world these days.I'm on my phone quite alot for work but outside of that i screen my calls and only take the ones i have to straight away.
I go to the Aust. open tennis every year and there is always some ********s who still have their phones on inside the arena during a match, that sort of stupidity ****es me right off.
I will answer my phone at any time if its the school or hubby. Other than that, if I am having a chat with a GF or in a shop etc I wont answer it, I only really text Craig and my dad and if I don't write my words correctly & in full they both will have no idea WTF I am on about lol. (Darned old farts!)
Haha, destroying the English language is an under statement... My sister is 14 (21!!) and I cant understand one full sms she has sent. They (age group) abbreviate words I didnt even know were possible to abbreviate. And OK has somehow become KK? WTF...Soz? Sori? Lk? Kwl? DW? Theres ALOT more but cant think of em!!! Lol.
Shut up when I'm talkin' to you, you hear me, answer me!
SMSing is pointless anyway.
Why not call? It's cheaper...
I've had similiar things in bars, one bloke was once so engrossed in his call he merely pointed at the beer tap and made a drinky drinky motion, didn't seem too happy when i just served the next person who walked up to the bar just after him and ordered like a normal person would before i served him
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?
i hate when people answer phone and neglect the person they are having a face to face with
but as for sms if it is done within reason short hand if fine by me
but when that are real stupid like
lnk cr b8trz 2g4
or
Nw Me'S PrBlY GuNnA Gt FlMd HrD 4 ThD PsT (.) Me DoNtS CrE
where every word is done i can't understand it
things like
wat r u doing 2day is ok
or
i c u at 8pm at maccas
both fine by me
Unless i'm totally out of space I never type spastic like that. I use the predictive text, so I'd have to enter each and every abreviation by hand for it to learn them, which really defeats the purpose if you're trying to save time.
even before I had predictive text I still didn't, my mum's a psycho English teacher and she would have bashed me if she saw.
(and yes, she has shown me essays which were written partly in SMS-speak.
*DONS FLAME SUIT ABOUT HER JOB*
I work in TeleSales, I call people on their mobile everyday, now Ive noticed people will answer their mobiles ANYWHERE!
Lots of people answer while driving, Doctors answer 'while performing surgery' WTF? but fridays was the best, I rang one young lass & was told she was too busy as she was having sex......
Is a mobile phone call that important to inturrupt those things?? (plus many more)
Im sure sometimes its just a line to get me off the phone, but alot of the time it isint
On that note, I feel naked without my phone on me.![]()
Girl at work answered her mobile the other day, as it came up no number. We have a policy at work not to allow use of personal mobiles, however we have no issue with a phone being on silent and the odd important call taken, as long as it is kept brief and phone calls are not frequent.
So I hear her say to the caller 'Yes this is Karen.' *pause* 'I am at work right now, this is not a convenient time.' The call was terminated. This girl then informed us it was Telstra calling to discuss how she could save money on her bill. When she explained she was at work, the Telstra person gave her a rude mouthful and asked why she answered if she couldn't speak.

I'm guilty of stopping what I'm doing to answer a phone call... but I'm always polite about it and apologise first to the person I'm talking to and keep the phone call brief, unless of course it turns out to be something very important.
When I'm at the checkout at the shops/paying for fuel at the servo/ordering food at a restaurant etc. and my phone rings I'll simply answer and tell them I'll call them back, or if I'm already in the middle of a conversation I'll let them know what I'm doing and either call them back later or ask them to hold on for a sec and put my phone down while I make my purchase, and continue the phone conversation afterwards.
As for messaging, I don't mind abbreviations as long as they're understandable. I use a lot of shortened words like "u" and "tomoro" for example, simply to get more into the message and hopefully not have to drag it out into multiple messages. It makes a difference when you send as many messages as I do every day :S And all my little abbreviations are already in the dictionary, they only have to be added once, so it actually is quicker than writing out the full word.
using dictionary i find it quicker to type an sms in fluent english anyway. I'll skimp on punctuation here and there, but nothing stupid.
as for answering phone calls, I usually don't. I'll wait for them to leave a message, then check the message and call them back in my own time.
