    Default Tyre Price Increase

Do you think the price of tyres will go up much in the next year or so?

Considering the price of fuel, inflation and increase in the Aussie dollar etc.

Performance tyres are already quite expensive and with the wide alloy rims and tyres on the new VE series maybe it's time to buy now to save later.

Having said that, would there be problems with storing tyres for a year before using them and how much would it generally cost to have say 18" tyres fitted?

geez i dread to think they would go up, to repalce 1 original bridgestone tyre 245/45/r18 on my car costs $501 now, but heres hoping that once there is more cars on the road with larger tyres that the prices will drop. I dont want to start going for inferior tyres just for the sake of a few dollars and crap road holding abilities.

i find bridgestone to be quite a rip off, yes those potenzas handle nice but there are equivelent tyres of other brands for much less money that will do the job just as good as them

yeah they are a bit, but they dont give much road noise and they stick to the road in the wet. too bad my uncle still doesn't work for bridgestones used to get really cheap tyres.

I'm not sure about the other brands but the Bridgestone 18" RE050A are a tad expensive.
Saw some for about $286 each but then they have to be fitted so there's extra bucks there too.

So does that mean that the VE Commodore Lumina and 60th Edition that have 18inch alloys wouldn't benefit from the wider rims and tyres? Or it's a waste of money putting wide tyres on these basic vehicles.

I think the standard VE Omega comes out with a steel 16inch rim.

Is there that much difference in handling considering all the new handling features or are the wider rims / tyres just a sales gimmick?

the reason for that wheel and tyre package is because:

1, it fulfills the needs of holden, 18inch alloy
2, they use a common size structure 245/45/18 or what ever it is
3, bridgestone is holden supplier so thats the they produce in that size, so thats whats used,

    the omega 16inch, uses re050 turanza, 215/60/16

Holdfast is now doin sums; spare alloy cost $250, tyre and rim; 4 tyres Bridgestone 245/45/18 with the alloys = $lots. Sell the bluddy ;lot get standard tyres and rims to save a bundle Err might just try the new 18s for awhile

you will keep the forever haha, steel wheels are pov,

the spare option is worth the money (just for the cost of the rim and tyre), you can then also maximise tyre change periods by then rotating the 5 wheels < use that excuse on the missus if you need to haha

dont be fooled, tyres will not go up in price. every car comes standard with 17 inch wheels these days and tyres need to be made cheaper for this reason. there days you can get a 235/45/17 tyre for 100-110 each... thats cheaper than it was years ago, and will probably get even cheaper, not more expensive.

and just readint he posts above, bridgestone is expensive becasue they are one of the best tyres out there, best tread and wear design, etc... i have tried many copies and other major brands and find bridgestone to last the longest, have good traction in the wet.... even if the price is bumped up, you can trust them.

I should have ordered another spare set @ $250 (1G) I wonder if the dealer would have let me or the missus

That isn't expensive. I paid $450 each for Potenza GIII's.
