Just wanted to know what other thoughts people have have on the new HSV W427.
Personally, I love it! I was shattered when the original HRT 427 was canned. But its good to see its made it finally. Australia has been home to some pretty mean super sedans like the Phase III GT-HO of the 70's (I know its a Ford but you have to give credit where credit is due) and HSV's first 300kw GTS was one of the fastest also.
But that was 10 years ago now so its good HSV have stepped it up. I would like to see how fast one will go round the Nurburgring though. The new Cadillac CTS-V’s 7:59.32 Nordschleife lap is, Cadillac says, potentially the fastest production sedan lap ever publicly documented. Now I think Australian's make better cars than the yanks by far and maybe the W427 could seriously challenge this claim. The CTS-V’s supercharged 6.2-litre V8 pumps out about 410kW. The W427 put's out 370kW but I think the suspension would have been setup a lot better than the yanks and probably gets power to the ground better.
Either way, Ford's GT is buggered, even with the LS3 6.2L V8 thats just come online. There is only one way for Ford to redeem itself - bring back the GT-HO! Although we might get a repeat of the 'Supercar Scare' of the 1970's and the manufacturers will go back in their shell and will take another 30's for the war to start over.
But seriously, I think its got great styling and goes like stink too.
I agree, I really like the W427.
I almost cried when the first 427 was a no-go. It was a thing of rare beauty. Not the first Holden one off to get archived tho, I have touched and even sat in the SSX. That machine was to die for.

I never got to see the SSX but I did see the HRT 427 and Marilyn at the Birdswood Motor Museum. The 427 is the first car you see and its just awesome.
The SSX reminded me of the old Sandmans and the LX Torana Hatchbacks as they were ultimate recreation sports cars...they properly define a SUV in my opinion
If I could throw away that much money on a car I'd probably go get something else... but as for a collectible car I'd say it's destined to become one.

Goin against the grain a bit here but Im not a fan.
Mostly in the looks department and the interior is too loud for my tastes.
The price tag is way too much as well, $125,000 I could see happening but $148,000 - $160,000 is way too steep for a motor and drive line upgrade.
Of course there will be people who will love them and buy them and good luck to them![]()
For a limited run of a car like this, I can't believe no one accepts the price tag? Do you expect them to sell at cost? Hell no.

I think it will go the way of the new FPV Cobra's they released where people resold them after 6 months and sold them for around $100000. Cars like these are an investment.
About time for a high performance wagon. Havn't seen anything since the V8 wagon lol.
I'll pass final judgement once I have driven one![]()

i dont personally like it - the new F6 will be to close in performance figures, and will surpass the W427 too easily. Holden should have made a car that blows everything else from australia out of the water - not just a heavy, ugly corvette.
my 2 cents.
You mean, like the origional HRT427?

Yeah exactly. The HRT 427 was lightened and was used for racing, although I don't know if it was street legal. The new F6 and XR6 Turbo will be just awesome. HSV needs to start going the way of BMW with high performance engines without a massive capacity reducing fuel consumption and weight making them faster and more attractive.
We know that Chev make brutal engines but BMW make simply awesome engines. That's what HSV has to aspire to, not V16 12L engines.

I have thought the same for some time. Holden just up the cubes to stay ahead. I think the big problem is in your message though "The new F6 and the XR6 Turbo".
These cars are not V8's and some people just won't change to a six because it isn't a V8. The simple fact is that holden make better V8's than Ford and Ford make 6's better than most other places around the world (bang for buck).
The 5.4 is a failure compared to the LS series, it is big, heavy and while being technically better, outright grunt has always gone the commodore.
I drove my brother-in-law's BA XR8 and was very unimpressed with the way it felt. It was like the acceleration was over before it had begun and it was time to change gears because it was on the limiter.
I also think that Ford shot themselves in the foot with the 220 V8. This was a silly mistake. You buy a fairlane because it is big roomy but also has a bit of grunt when you want to use it. The least they could have done is to give it the 260 version.
As always with Ford, almost but not quite

At the end of the day, it's still just a glorified HSV, with a pricetag of over double that of a GTS, if the 150k+ rumours are true.
They are nowhere near selling it at "cost". It'll only appeal to the fanatics with more money than sense. For the cars on offer in that price bracket, a holden would be the last car I'd consider.
Exactly. Why would you spend 100K+ on any aussie car. The amount of complaints about quality control, warrenty issues, service and above all the fact that Holden and HSV are not in the same league as BMW and Merc.
Ever since seeing the M5 in topgear I have wanted one. The part where Jeremy goes "When you hit this button everything changes" was really cool.

i the things i would do for one of those beasts, and if i ever got one all i would need is my pilots license and watch the lights blurr backwards!! if only.
If HSV improve the quality and don't just borrow chev engines and do what Porche, BMW, Ferrari, M-Benz and every other proper sports car maker do - lighten the car and add performance, not stick a massive engine and add plastic bits adding weight.
Long live the HRT 427
The W427 is a great car, but its 2-3 years late.
It will sell 200 cars as its meant to but the value of these cars will plummet as its simply not far enough ahead of whats due in the next few years. How long til the HSV's are 330kw, then 350kw? Then who will pay $150k for the W427?
