Default how long is too long to wait?

    ok, here is the story...

we ordered our 2 and 3 seater lounge in mid febuary from freedom. its red leather and cost 2K. we didnt care about the price, it was beautiful and comfy as. we were told 13 weeks because it has to be custom made in that colour. it should] have been here today (as today is exactly 13 weeks since we ordered it). the wiat of 13 weeks wasnt a problem, we knew our unit wasnt going to be built for sometime after we put the order through.. but here is where the fun starts!

about 6 weeks ago i got a phonecall saying that delivery has been pushed back by 3 weeks until the start of june. they offered free delivery (which i didnt care about as i have acccess to 4 different utes to pick it up) as compensation. as there was nothing i could do i let it slide.

two weeks later i was called and told it was pushed back again to the end of june. still annoyed, and still nothing i could do. about a week later we went and bought a coffee table from them and while we were there decided to pay some more off the lounge. we were told that factory in china collapsed due to heavy snow falls (at ths start of febuary) and thats why there was a delay.

about an hour ago i got another phone call saying that our 3 seater will be ready in a few weeks, at the start of june. the 2 seater wont be ready until september! that is 7 months after we first ordered it. honestly, is that too long to wait?

i am in 2 minds on what to to. do i cancel it and get our money back? or do i wait and see if the 3 seater is actually going to be delivered as promised? and if it isnt on time do i try and push them for free stuff?

all i know is sarah is at work.. when shegets home and finds out we have to wait another 4 months for the rest of our lounge, she is gunna be pissed..

I find it funny you had to sneak in what you payed for it and the fact you didn't care what it costs that was kind of irrelevant.

this happened to us a while back, we ordered a table and chairs and only the chairs came after about 3 months, they said the table was another 3 away. Just call them and tell them to have the furniture at your door within 7 days or you will be collecting a refund. Also tell them you will be in contact with consumer affairs if any problems occur. People like this have rules to follow but they dont let people know this. IMO "**** 'em"

Cancel the order... You'll be surprised how quickly it turns up after that

well its not as if it is a cheap arse fantasic furniture job. it isnt 400 bucks we are talking about here... we are paying good money and getting screwed. the fact is we ordered AFTER the factory collapsed and they 'neglected' to tell us that it could cause problems.

also the beauty part is the first home buyers grant is paying for it so its not as if it is directly coming out of my pocket anyway. in a way.. YOU are paying for it!

we were given the option to cancel and i agree that it is a good idea. but i highly doubt it will turn up if we say we want to cancel it. we also looked at every furniture shop in canberra and found nothing that looks as good, feels as good and is designed in such a way that it is easy to get in our unit.

Get your money back and go find another one. If you accept the couch you are then in a mess trying to match it up with the chairs if they don't turn up. 7 months is bs.

    7 months??
No way i'd put up with that, i don't care how nice it is that's way too long to wait.
Only way i'd consider waiting is if they bent over backwards and slashed the price in half, otherwise i'd tell them to stick it up their choccy wizzway.

sweet, can i come round and crash on it sometime?

personally i'd start some ****, places like this rely on good word of mouth and will generally do whatever they can to get a good rep.

you might just get a free ex display model until yours shows up.

I guess all I want to know is why buy overseas rubbish? Surely you can buy a locally made product and keep the money in this country.

i wasnt aware of where it was built until after. besides, the floor model they have in the shop feel like decent quality.

i think we are going to email customer service and put through a complaint. basiclly, tell them how we are repeat customers, have high expextations and say that we have been totally let down by their service.

Leave out the "high expectations" bit - it gives them an excuse as in their eyes you might be viewed as a difficult customer. 7 months is too long to wait for a chair.

Completely relevant to the time he has been waiting, the cost of the thing and the conditions of the sale. If it were a $400 job we'd say cancel now. I $10k thing it'd be worth the wait. Gives us (people who buy or know furniture) an idea of what it is and how worth it it is.

It may just show up. Oldies ordered one and it was months overdue. Rang and suggested cancellation and got a phonecall the next day to say it was in the shop storage and had been labeled wrong. Don't know what truth was in the story but the goods showed up! on the other hand i was told there was a 12 week wait on my dining suite and it took 3. Lucky i guess.

agreed. Don't be difficult. Be firm and confident. Act disappointed.

Got two new couches the other day half price. thrilled! they were floor stock set for clearance.

Fantastic Furniture is good for people who need a quick fix. Quality is poor but the stuff is cheap.

When a factory goes bust or looses stock they have 3 months to notify customers of there plight although most will let you know asap, you only have to wait 4 months for delivery and after that your stock must be delivered, another item offered or a full refund given. They have acted poorly and i would ask for a full refund as even if you do get half your couch you will never be able to match it with other furniture. You can also ask for a loan couch if you want to keep waiting, they are to provide you with suitable furniture until yours arrives at no charge also have you had a good cry? get your wife to call or go into the store ( pref into the store ) and wail at the top of her lungs about her couch, a good sob will get people moving, esp if it may affect other customers.

Good luck with it all though!

We had a similar problem with a 7 seater leather lounge. It arrived and the quality was crap. For what we'd payed for it, (Couple of grands worth) the leather was cracking all over the place. We rang them up and complained. They said they would send a "Leather Expert" out to have a look. He came out, wrote a report, went away. We were informed we would be given a new lounge to replace it, we didnt hear back from them for a couple of months. Rang up...nothing...rang up again...nothing...kept on going like this. We finally got a new one, and the leather was the same crap quality, stretched to fit in places, almost busting some of the stitching etc.

Rang up, and they said once again they would send somebody to look at it. Same deal. Said they would replace it.

All in all, we waited 2 years to get a leather lounge of a quality that was acceptable because they kept putting us off everytime we tried to ring up and find out about it. Got Consumer Affairs involved and it was resolved in a month.
