okay guys, the title has a lot of different things but it all means something. pretty much i want to upgrade my phone, atm the moment i have a LG TU500 Pre-Paid. and i want to upgrade to a better phone but still want it on pre-paid. so could i get a new better phone on a plan or cap, put my pre-paid sim-card in it, and then cancel the plan or cap? do i still keep the phone then?
id vote for optus 3g prepaid

Easiest way is just to buy a new phone out right and put your sim card in it, thats if you want to stay pre paid
Plans best if you're willing to stick with them for 24 months. No doubt.
Yup what they said ^^^ A plan that includes a phone for 'no cost' requires you to stay for 24mths on average, cancelling out will incur minimum the cost of the phone which works out more expensive than buying it out right.
What are your reasons to stay on pre-paid?? What other than calls/sms do you want to use your phone for?? IE GPS/Camera/Data/entertainment/MP3.... etc....
You are better off just buying the phone you want outright. Telstra aren't stupid - if you cancel a contract or cap plan, they will make you pay out an early termination fee that's more than the cost of the "free" phone you get.
Either get the phone you want on a contract, or pony up for full price and keep your pre-paid sim. You can get some decent new phones off reputable eBay shops if you're trying for a smaller cost, but warranty could be an issue later on.
Optus turbo charge pre-paid is the best value in my opinion. 3 Mobile by far the worst.
