Also from the ninemsn website:
Motorsport commentator Charlie Cox, cartoonist Warren Brown and driving instructor Steve Pizzati have won the highly sought-after job to host Australian Top Gear.
After months of interviews, the three were revealed Wednesday night as the hosts of the Australian version of the hit BBC TV program at a function in Sydney.
Cox, Brown and Pizzati beat more than 4,000 others for the chance to front the program, which will premiere on SBS after the Olympics this year.
The first version outside the UK, the show features three enthusiasts test driving and brutally appraising the world's most popular cars and performing stunts.
SBS director of content Matt Campbell said it was a difficult task to pick the final three but was confident they had found a winning combination.
"We have chosen three totally different and entertaining personalities who have a natural chemistry that works," Campbell said.
All the hosts have a deep passion for motoring.
Currently a motorsport commentator for the BBC, Cox, 47, is known for his classic one-liners.
He worked in radio in Sydney in the 1980s before moving to the UK where he won several motor racing titles in the 1990s and was involved in a near life-ending crash in 1995.
Brown, in his mid-40s, is best known for his work as a cartoonist and motoring columnist for The Daily Telegraph, but also has a passion for historic cars.
The third host, Steve Pizzati, is the youngest of the bunch, in his mid 30s.
He is an advanced driving instructor, freelance motoring journalist and a race driver for Porsche Australia.
Sydney Morning Herald motoring editor Josh Dowling will act as the motor industry consultant.
The Australian Top Gear will have a distinctly "Australian feel" while still being based on the format made popular in the UK where it is led by Jeremy Clarkson.
Top Gear managing director Adam Waddell praised Aussie presenters.
"A show like Top Gear doesn't resonate with a huge global audience just because people love cars," he said. "The world's most entertaining car show's popularity owes much to the relationship between its three presenters.
"In Charlie, Warren and Steve, Top Gear Australia now has its own team - three guys who possess the spirit of Top Gear whilst having their own distinct personalities."
SBS was bombarded with entries for the job, picking from 4,000 DVD entrants followed by months of interviews and screen tests.
Among those hoping to score the job are believed to be former beauty queen and motorbike enthusiast Laura Csortan and former Escape With ET reporter Michelle Walsh.
A cartoonist... seriously? thats the best we got?
Think I will be sticking to the UK Top Gear
omg...how lame will this show be...I can see it now
Turns on the Clarkson voice...
The Falcon XT we tested does 0-100 in 39.2 seconds. Feels like a powerhorse compared to the VE omega we tested at 40.6 seconds. Both of these are prestige cars in the Australian car market and the 236 bhp engines certainly show us why. With body roll rivalling a barrel roll in a fighter jet these things are magical on the road. Now lets see what the aussie stig can do around our test track...
Surely we could have had much better presenters than these tossers.
"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

We will just have to wait see if its any good. I heard they are bringing out a Top Gear Australia Magazine too so it sounds like its pretty serious.
I just had a quick read of the bio's on these three guys on the SBS website and they seem like they know what they are talking about.
On first glance, I think its going to be fairly similar to the UK version just with less cars. I wonder how many Holden vs Ford comparisons they will do???
I just realized....
Its like the producers went...
"RIGHT, we need a bigger bloke with short hair... another bloke with long hair and a small bloke with messy hair..." and thats what they came up with...lol
10bux says the lil bloke ends up with a Rodent nickname or something like "joey"...lol
I'm very disappointed. Its all I can say.
I've never seen these people before. LOL
Cant say Ive ever heard of those guys. Someone that races for Porsche, wouldnt be any bias there
I see this show failing epically.
My Current Ride 2004 VZ SS Lowered on SSL's
Rishy's VZ SS
My Old Ride 1998 VT Acclaim on WH Grange's
Scotty's Acclaim
Minux and Clarkson would be a great couple....!!!!
haha never will they be as good as the UK version/hosts...there the best

Who won the hot laps?
Not me!
O.k. here are my picks for Top Gear AUS
The three people are
Jeremy Clarkson = Minux - tells it like he thinks it is
Hampster = Cousin Slow Poke - Our resident danger man, getting taken out by a idiot truck driver, but also drives one of the best looking VE's going around
James = Reaper - Always seems balanced, nothing over the top, not afraid to get the hands dirty (Reaper's VP SS) and still drives a nice looking VE too

It's always going to be hard following in the footsteps of an already popular tv show.
I was always doubting the success of the show because the only reason top gear uk works is because of clarkeson, and especially captain slow - he's been increasing in my books since I saw a few youtube videos showing off what he's like - the F word challenge with Gordon Ramsay is a perfect example. Hammond, well he's only just coming back into the goods after hosting Brainiac haha.
I'm still curious to see how it goes. Not willing to write it off when I haven't seen these guys, being a Porsche racing driver he should be pretty good to get an idea of how the cars feel on the road, the cartoonist should have a good sense of humour.. Hopefully.
And, after the olympics I'll be ready to watch ANYTHING.
MEH! could of atleast made the show with 1 retired racing driver(v8 supercars or something)..... that way we would of seen atleast one host before....
ill watch it but i dont like the chance's that it will come anywhere near as close to the original.... alot less cars = crappy show.....
The main problem I see with this show is what are they going to do different to the UK version other than the holden vs ford thing which would take one episode.
If they can't get their hands on the latest and greatest supercars and fang them round a track, it is just going to be another channel 9 "Car show", which is just advertising anyway.
I hope it is a good show, I really do, but i just can't see it being great, because they will be doing the same stuff as the UK version or it will be watered down so much that it becomes a show about family cars.

They are going to comapre an M5 to a VE Omega.....![]()
