so i've been helping a chick i know look for a new car, and i've heard that in order to transfer ownership or rego you need a rwc for the car?
is it truue? anyone recently bought a ride shed any light on the finer points of this?
Yup. When you transfer rego at VicRoads, you need to supply a current, original copy RWC with your rego application/transfer forms.

Yep... need a rwc to transfer or register a vehicle.
BUT. If you are buying the car privately and the selling in including rego with the sale by LAW he has to provide you with a rwc.
It says it on the transfer papers...
I had a bloke try to tell me he doesn't have to provide me with a rwc when he is selling the car with rego but it says it plain and simple on the transfer papers.
Good Luck
No you don't need a RWC, kind of.
If someone sells a car, they're meant to provide a RWC but if they don't, you can still transfer the rego. You just leave the RWC details on the transfer sheet blank, wait 14 days from the date of the form to hand the form in and you're given 14 days (which is always extended to 28 days) to get the RWC.
I bought an unRWC car without a RWC but Reg. It was my project car, so I didn't bother getting a RWC, I just cancelled the reg and cashed in. If I wanted to, I could've got a RWC within 28 days and registered the car.
You will need a RWC at some point if you want the car to be registered in your name and driveable.
That's what i did with the wagz, seller was happy for me to get the RWC done in my own time and to transfer the reg when it was done
Only agreement we had was if I got pinged for speeding/parking fines, etc I would pay them but as I don't get these anyway it was no problem
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?
