Default Weird stuff picked up on a roadworthy

hey i just got a roadworthy done the other day and amongst a few other things they said my car was unroadworthy cause it had a tow ball on it... and i thought that thats weird cause ive had heaps of RWC checks done and this is the first time that has come up and so i was wondering what other stuff like that has come up. cause heaps of cars on the road have a tow ball so that means most the cars on the road are unroadworthy...

I was picked up because my spare I had on was a little smaller than my other rims, I just had a flat tyre, I explained I was going to the tyre place to get it fixed and he said " to bad its unroadworthy" So I had the tyre fixed and then had to go and get a roadworthy, bloody prick!

Its really stupid, if you actually read the vic roads web site regarding roadys there isnt alot out fo left field.

Stupid things brought up are just the inspecter trying to protect his testing licence. There hard to get and easy to loose!

Tow balls are a safety thing, its reccomended to remove them when not driving with a tralier however doesnt say you cant pass without a good condition one:

    Page 10-

    http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rd...E3/0/VSI26.pdf

Youll find that just beacuse they can fail you they will... Your windows dont actually have to go up and down to pass a roady.. but your washer bottle does have to be filled! Go Figure!

    haha

He was right to fail you. At the time of inspection it must be road worthy! Having a spare on means that it is not.

If you had have had a same size small wheel on the opposite side then you'd be fine but the combination was un roadworthy.

You have to understand the pressure on the tester... its his job to follow the rules. There are things that just cant be "let go"

Sorry did not explain very well! I was picked up by a cop while driving to get my spare tyre fixed, I had a flat at home changed it and was driving to get it fixed when I was pulled over and told my car was unroadworthy I explained the situation but to no avail, so I got my tyre fixed and had to book in for a roadworthy the same day, not happy at all

here in nsw the tow ball can be knocked back if it obstructs the number plate.
had a brake line knocked back because it looked perished, we put some braid covering on it and it passed.

maybe tell them you use a trailer everyday..

did they ask you how often you use it.? or is it something as simple as not having a cover on it?

That doesn't sound very clever. If it looked perished, maybe it was.

I was going to suggest the 'blocking the number plate' too. Is there another reason, like maybe a politician walked into one in a car park once?

i had a car knocked back because the auto T-bar action was loose (rattly). i thought that was the most ridiculous thing i've ever heard. it clearly worked and had never slipped.

Guys you gotta take into account the rwc lasts 30 somthing days
the inspector must cater for that ammount of time for anything that may fail or is about to fail.

when i do inspections i'll bag the absalut **** out of them, dont care what it is.
if the mud flap seems loose its " repair or remove" towbar tounge gets removed and put in the boot.
Iam cover my ass and also the propertier license (work). if anyting goes wrong i could be up for manslauter, loss of inspectors license and also the company looses their license and gets fined, and i loose my job.
If ya dont like the rwc inspection take it some were else...

    Dont winge about it

Well said Void. I always hear of people winging about a strict roadworthy, when I get a Roadworthy license (I will in the next couple of years) I will can anything and everything, you see some of the vehicles that get around on the road these days, they're just plain dangerous.

Fair enough the owner of the vehicle not caring how safe their car is and not wanting to maintain their car to save money but it puts other innocent people in danger having an unroadworthy car on the streets.

And fair enough about the towbar tongue, it shouldn't be on if the vehicle isn't being used for towing, it becomes an obtrusive object which could cause an injury to a pedestrian.

I agree, it needs to be strict to save your own ass, and i dont have a problem with that.

My problem is, why does the boot have to stay up?
He complained about that, but let me get away with bald tyres (dangerously bald, tiniest bit of rain im sliding) rust under the windscreen, a bog job in the spare tyre well, Spare wheel a completly different size to the wheel fitted, Rip in seat with the frame work sticking out. I could keep going, he missed a **** load, which i was glad when he complained about the boot, but WHY the boot lol.
