    Default painting pushie, prep work?

so a while back i got a $15 bmx from the salvos with the backpedal=brake i used to love as a kid, it just needed pedals and grips, total $30.

anyway it's chrome, but kinda pitted and rust specs, so now i'm looking to spray it matt black, only thing is i don't want it chipping and looking ghetto after 2 days.

what would you guys recommend to stop this from happening, i'd say i'm going to use pressure packs to spray it, but want to know any prep work that'd help first.

I recently sprayed my mountain bike gloss balck, it was a big job. I sanded the original black paint back, not to bare metal. Then I put the grey primer on it and sanded that back, but I sanded it back too much and it was like glass. When I put my black coats on it was all well and good but after a few days it was chipping off because it didnt stick to the undercoat because it was too smooth. So my tip is to keep the undercoat a little coarse. Also, get some white spirit/wax n grease remover to wipe over the surfaces before painting.

I went to clear coat it, but the stuff I bought went all milky white when I put it on, it was a bad batch of clear, so I never got to clear coat it. I used pressure pack cans for all my work.
