    Default Reverse cycle split systems

Hey guys have not long moved into my own place couple months ago now it came with a Reverse cycle split system neways my problem is 4 the life of god i cant get the heating side of it 2 operate lol

Its a Heller ACK70RC i do have a manual 4 it but it doesnt really explain much bout the heating basically all u do is set it on heating mode, set temp and away she goes... apparently haha. Can some1 shed some light if mayb theres a simple trick 2 it that im not doing? or if the unit may need a professional 2 look at it? thought id ask here 1st incase it was somthing stupid n obvious lol b4 i rang the real estate about it.

if it is on heat mode, and you set the temperature to HIGHER than what the room is you should expect it to heat. Look for a reset control on the unit, check the filters, see if you can throw the circuit switch for it for 10 seconds.
Anything that might reset it is a good start. Failing that get it checked out.

By your own place do you mean you bought it, or finally broke free of the oldies? If the first - you should have had it checked before buying, if the latter make it the landlords problem.

Theres an emergancy button? would that b the same as a reset button? its weird theres a light on that says the compessor is on but no air flow or anything is coming outer of it, i have it set on 32* the highest it goes up 2. Filters r clean i have had the unit running it works in all other modes. I can see/hear the external unit is operating... well the fan on it is running but thats all.

Im renting again so yeah it would b the landlords problem but just wanted 2 see if theres somthing i can do or check b4 i went there just saves the hassles having 2 wait 4 them 2 come out and look at it.

Sounds broken to me, get a rocket up the landlord and get him to fix it quick nothing worse then being stuck in the cold waiting for a lazy land lord to fix things at his sweet leisure. If he was any sort of decent landlord like myself, he would have gone into the place and tested all that before you moved in. People like that give landlords a bad name and in no way should it be a hassel for you to get him to fix it, he should do it quickly and at times that suit you, if hes half decent.

So when on heat mode the fan is spinning? have you left it on heat mode for at least half an hour? sometimes they take a while to heat up or have to run a defrost cycle....

if that doesn't work get your landlord to call a licensed refrigeration mechanic.... to me it sounds like a blown/damaged compressor, we have had 6 do similar (cool but won't heat), generally caused by filters not being cleaned often enough....

Yeah the fan on the external unit is spinnin but the fan on the inside unit doesnt work on heat mode (do they serve the same purpose?) I left it on last nite 4 over an hour as u said in the manual it does talk about defrosting the unit wen switching 2 heat mode but says it can take up to 2-10mins 2 do this haha so unless theres somthing ive missed 2 do or press i think u might b right about the compressor coz wen i moved in and 1st used the aircon the air smelt stale so i took out the filters n **** me u could hardly see through them lol but they r nice n clean now

Please do not take this as the be all and end all as I am not a refrigeration mechanic, I would say the blocked filters have killed the compressor. All the compressors that have broken at work were due to blocked filters (before I started working here ) as your in a rental I would say the filter hasn't been cleaned in a long long time..... and unfortunately compressors are fairly expensive ($500).....Hopefully the unit is still under warranty......

Thanx man well thats good info i can pass on 2 the land lord 4 the reason "if" its the compressor has packed it in they might get onto the job a bit quicker but dam $500? i wonder if they will pay out that sorta money just so i can b comfy in winter lol? I did have a look on the net about this model it seems they came out with a 5 year warrenty, it looks new 2 me so hopefully they can claim it under warrenty? i'll give them a call and see wat they say

Both i've used (At parents house and my first house renting) had different settings. Usually a symbol for each season. The were both on the remote.
Put it on the winter setting (snowflake usually) and you should be alright.

According to http://www.gafcontrol.com.au/brochur...ler-AirCon.pdf, it is a reverse cycle model so it should heat for you.
They are a local company, and have a technical hotline, why not give them a ring(the number is in the link), you'll sort out faster whether there is a fault rather than perhaps a delay in the owner coming down to see what is going on etc
Sometimes these units may not actually do anything for 3 or 4 minutes before the compressor is actuated(just blow out room temp air) and heating begins, though I assume you have tried for longer than that without fiddling with the controls?
The cooling side of it works though?, a good sign, that the compressor functions.

Wat u just explained there i think is the defrosting stage it does but yer in the manual it says 2 wait 2-10mins 4 it 2 defrost b4 the fans and everything is supposed 2 kick in but i left it over an hour last nite and it did nothing, it doesnt even blow room temp air lol.

The cooling side of it works fine, the other modes that also work is the dry cooling and just fan mode.

i'll try that hotline and see how i go thanx man
