At work all our vehilcles we use are fleet purchased. We have a '97 VT Commodore. When I started my new job in February I took on ownership of two cars: the VT and an AU Falcon Forte.
The ownership deal is that any problem's that arise are to be communicated to me and I arrange to get these fixed. About 40 people have access to this car and it goes through varied conditions and is close to 200000kms, so she's a tough old girl.
What happened yesterday truely was tear jerking.
Someone who just drove it round plant tells me the hot alarm came up within a few kays. They drove it back to the office and swapped cars after letting me know. I knew that someone on secondment had been driving at as a personal vehicle after hours so I asked him if he had noticed it. Turns out it had been happening for more than a month but he thought it was just a faulty thermostat. I did somemore investigating and it was confirmed the car overheated and it was not a false alarm, and that it appeared the car didn't have enough coolant.
So I took the car to the local to be fixed which will take a while because they are flat out at the moment. I drove 3 of the 4 kms to the dealer and the hot alarm sounded. by the time I got to the dealer a minute later the temo scale was well in high region, almost to the top. Some one had followed me to take me back to the office. I gave the service department the keys and walked back to the car that had tailed me, who had parked next to the VT. The cooling fan was still going after 5 mins.
Hopefully it turns out ok and the heads haven't cracked. What's annoying is the fact this problem wasn't alerted to me a month ago when I could have gotten it fixed. This didn't need to happen if people change their "she'll be right" additude.
who honestly does that ****
It was male which is more disturbing, but they just thought it was faulty.
There was whispers the VT would be retired but we are a regional office so we get a little neglected and I will believe it when I see it.
that's company cars for you. people don't have the same respect for company cars. ie: its not their's so who cares!
we have the same at our work, although i treat them with respect, i've taken over two cars and both have needed a few hours cleaning inside ( absolute pig sties, old food, rubbish etc etc ) and both have had panel/paint damage.
Nothing handles like a company car mate!
People cane them so this is a nice learning time for you, check up on the cars all the time. You shouldnt have to but you may as well, it could save you big $$ in the long run
no longer a hoon by association - the commodore is gone
not my dads tractor it can go anywhere do anything![]()
WTF? what is the bloody point of having a temp guage and auditable alarm???
Smack the guy in the face with a caution sign and when he has a little whine just explain to him the caution sign is faulty.....
Problem Solvered. Heater Tap was naffed, leaking profusely, replaced, coolant flush performed. Just drove it back from the dealer, needle rose just a little bit. Hopefully won't see this problem again.
Females hey! was it really? if thats the case it has nothing to do with being female and everything to do with being a dick! dont hang **** on us because of one stupid thing, and as other people have said" who does that" I am female and I would never do that and I resent the fact that you are calling females stupid because of one thing one person has done!
I dont drink these days. I am allergic to alcohol and drugs. I breakout in handcuffs!
The less people know about how sausages and laws are made, the better they'll sleep at night.
Whoever said it was female doesn't reflect the opinions of the others who have replied in this thread. What made this problem worse was the person didn't wish to notify me in the first place. He's a good mate of mine who's worked on cars too. But he came to the conclusion the thermostat had failed. He never lifted the bonnet to see how much coolant or how hot the engine was.
He didn't even have to organise a time with the dealer, all he had to do was tell me the problem and I would have had it sorted in a few days.
Thats fine and thankyou but I resent the fact that because there was a problem mack said it was a female, I think most of the time we a fairly good with our cars, ok driving it is a known fact we are worse but upkeep I think we are better! just look at Sam Newman, dont upset the sisterhood or you could be given a few weeks off!!

Yeah Mack... So there! Dont they actually prefer to hire female's to drive Haulpack's in the mines because its proven we are more gentle with vehicles, less costs in repairs?
OH well what do yu know that is a fact! Ner Ner!
Bugger about the car, some people have no respect for others belongings. Hope it's all good now.
Here's an interesting fact. At the mine nearby, the largest trucks are driven by mostly women because they found women are better at driving carefully.
Yea go the girls!! see we only rough when you men ask us to be grrrrrr!! hahahahah

Yeah, I only took the car in on Wednesday when I found out it overheated. Picked it up this morning and I let him know it was all fixed and he could drive it once again and he was so apologetic. It's a company car that stays at work I just maintain it but when it goes out of service the whole office can't use them, so we need to get them repaired asap. He's not working for me, he's an engineer who's on secondment here who can use the car in town only.
