Default Good TV and graphics card.

My Mum wants a computer, so she's thinkin of buying a package. She said she'll get one which I like, then we'll swap case's so she has mine, and I can have hers, so then I can put a graphics/video card in it.

I got one of those small Acer box's which u can't do anything with, not even upgrade. So as Mum just wants to check her bank and emails (I said she can use mine, but she wants a computer of her own), she said mine will be ok for her....then she'll get one which I can mod so I can play NFS Pro Street.

So yeah I'm just wondering wat decent DIGITAL TV cards were around and wat price they are. Also after a graphics card so I can play Pro Street. Apparently I can use "Pixel Shader 2.0, AGP and PCIe" only. Anyone know what they're worth and where I can get them from?

if she is just buying a package then it will come will the sufficient graphics card

my personal advice would be to get a dell.. they sell them out of office works now.. great computer packages with good prices.. as for tv cards you can get them from most computer parts stores or ebay

do some good research on digital tv cards, as they can have problems in picking up channels. I bought a divco fusion brand then took it back because it could pick up channel 9

Like the computer you have now, make sure it has the right expansion slots to put in your new cards, and it has enough of them. If you can get a pc without a built in graphics card, then that would be better as its one less thing for a new one to conflict with. Have you looked at Nvidia cards, i find them to be ok.
You may already have done this, but have you gone to a computer shop to have one custom built, especially since you want it purpose built for gaming. Which most cheap dells are best suited to office work.

Dude, how much money do you have to spend

If you can get the 8800 GT, much better card than the 8600, and not that much more. You can pick one up for around $260 - $280

Just a word of warning, that free optional case may look fancy, but they are ****, Mum bought one for her comp, I had to redrill and thread motherboard screws because they didnt line up properly, some holes were up to 5mm out, and even now the motherboard is kinda bent to make the back slots line up and being screwed in. Her computer is nothing flash internally and still requires alot of fans and air flow to keep it cool, of course im running all Thermal take fans, 3 case fans, cpu and P/s and it hardly hits over 30 degrees now

Agreed, I quite like Nvidia, ive never had a problem and seem to be well priced, and dont lie about sharing system ram to build graphics ram.
Custom built is always the go, but you will pay a fortune at a computer shop for one custom built, you would be better to do what air strike did, and tell wat type of computer you want and your budget and we can make up a list of parts, and you pick and choose and build it yourself, its really not hard to assemble.

I'd be careful with what you have in plan to change cases. I'm not sure about Acer, but there are quite a few manufacturers of "ready built" pcs that make sure their cases do not adhere to ATX form factors (standard for PC cases) so that they are not interchangeable. It would not surprise me if your motherboard will not fit into your mothers case, and vice versa.

Agreed. I could have saved a guy 2K just by shopping smart and doing a bit yourself. All you need is a flathead and phillips screwdriver and your set.

I don't really want a computer built for hard core gaming. I rarely play games (sometimes I might install NFS U2 and play that for a week or 2, then get rid of it for a few months). I got all excited when NFS Pro Street come out, and I got a copy off of ebay...but when I tried playing it the game kept crashing. I googled the problem and yeah it turned out it was my graphics/video card....or lack of lol.

2morrow I'll go have a look through our local puter shop and see wat they have. We'd prefer the 'rent to buy' payment process.

We'd change the whole cases over. So she gets her new computer package, and I have the case with everything in it, and she has my case with everything in it.
