Im so excited about this! round 3 for these 2 old war horses, when will it end?
It's being held in Melbourne on the 24/6/08 and going for a good 10 rounds!
this is going to be one hell of a fight and im hoping fenech takes the win...
what are your thoughts on this?
this is taken from the hereld sun:
NOBODY in Australian boxing has more credibility, respect and experience than trainer Johnny Lewis, who has been in the caper for 51 years.
So when he says - as he did yesterday - that the controversial "Final Round" between Jeff Fenech and Azumah Nelson will be fair dinkum, that should take some of the wind out of suggestions that it is no more than a bit of money-making theatre for the gullible and the naive.
Lewis, who will be in Fenech's corner as he was for most of the triple world champion's career, said: "This won't be an embarrassment.
"I love the boxing game too much to be involved in anything that's not real.
"Boxing is not as healthy as it should be and the last thing it needs is a stinker."
Lewis, 64, who has trained five world champions, is certainly right there - but we shall see.
Fenech, 44, and Nelson, 49 - both members of the International Boxing Hall of Fame - will square off over 10 rounds at Vodafone Arena on Tuesday night, 16 years after their last meeting.
In Melbourne in 1992, Nelson stopped Fenech in eight rounds after having been lucky to escape with a hotly-disputed drawn decision at their first clash a year earlier.
According to Lewis, Fenech is so desperate to atone for the defeat that effectively destroyed his career, this fight has come to mean more to him than the other two.
"It is closure," Lewis said.
"He is still a very competitive person and he has worked really hard to give himself the best chance of success.
"It is something he has wanted for a long time."
Nelson, too, insists that he means business, and that his revered status at home - he is Ghana's most famous sportsman - means that he cannot contemplate defeat.
His credibility also got a boost yesterday when he trained impressively at the same South Melbourne gym that Fenech has been using.
He was pictured in the Herald Sun yesterday looking slightly overweight, and appeared distinctly unamused when Fenech walked up while the TV cameras were on, tried to lift Nelson's sweat-top up and said with a laugh: "C'mon, show 'em how fat you are!"
Nelson might not look as "ripped" as Fenech does, but in eight rounds of punching moving pads in the ring he left no one in any doubt that his right hand is still lethal.
"The last thing you lose is your punching power, and he's still got his," said former world champion and Herald Sun expert commentator Barry Michael, who has been unconvinced about the fight's bona fides - until now.
"And he's clearly done the work. At the end of the session, he wasn't even breathing hard," Michael said.
"Never judge a book by its cover, I suppose.
"He's fair dinkum, all right."
Lewis has a reputation for protecting his boxers and is well aware that some experts consider it dangerous for two men of this age to fight.
Indeed, Fenech fielded well-worn questions yesterday about whether boxing should be banned.
"Of course, there's danger," Lewis said.
"There would be an element of danger if it was two 20-year-olds.
"But the risk is taken out of the equation to the fullest if you do everything properly to prepare, and Jeff has satisfied me with that.
"The last thing I want to be involved in is a serious injury or a tragedy.
"I had the option to say yes or no (about participating) and I had no hesitation in saying yes.
"Jeff and I have had a great journey together and I'm honoured to be here with him again."
However, Lewis admits that he wouldn't want to see such events become a regular part of boxing.
"One of these will do us all, I think," he said.
Again, he is unlikely to get many arguments there.

it would be interesting to watch tho. good for a laugh![]()
im going to throw a 50 on jeff. should be a good fight someone might even do a hip
no longer a hoon by association - the commodore is gone
Reminds me of the latest Rocky Movie. Im gonna watch it to see whos false teeth fall out first.
Fennech should win if he doesn't break his hands again. He has had a long time for the bones to heal properly this time so i am hoping he will be alright. He clearly won the first fight with Nelson but the referees decision went the other way. Nelsons manager (Don King) was very dodgy and everyone thought that he might have thrown some money to the referee for the decision to go his way. I would love to see the rematch and then see Fennech give Don King a flogging also.![]()
i'd like to see fenech take it out but after seeing the training they'd been doing it's going to be bloody hard to tell, nelson maybe be a pudgy one but it's very very deciving...
only 2 days to go!!!going down to the brother club to watch it...damn poor ass i am not having pay tv
and yeah i recon that first one was a bit dodge to (result), but thats boxing it even happens in the amature league.
