"The driver of this high-powered Holden ute that smashed into a tree on Northbourne Avenue escaped with nothing more than a scratch to his knee.
The 33-year-old Amaroo man declined to be named or to speak at the scene except to say he was feeling "good, considering," after the lunchtime crash.
The motorist was heading south on the busy thoroughfare just after 1.30pm when he lost control of his vehicle and hit the tree, the impact crushing the roof of the dual cab ute.
Witnesses said they saw the car and another vehicle racing just before the crash.
An ACT Fire Brigade unit was called to the scene but the driver had already managed to escape from the vehicle through the upturned driver's side window.
Southbound traffic on Northbourne Avenue was reduced to one lane for about 40 minutes after the crash.
ACT Police Crash Investigation Team is examining the cause of the accident.

I blame the BBQ bottle in the back![]()

How the **** did he get out of that!!??
LUCKY alright! If I were him I wouldn't be buying any lotto tickets, his luck has ran out!
Jeeeeeeeezarz!!! One lucky man could have been one burnt crispy man. Or crushed and crispy. He has to be one of the luckiest men ever. ****ing idiot though by the looks of that.
"Errr errr, a dog ran out in front of my SS ute mate, i don't drive like a nut, that's what silly people do"![]()
Well if that does'nt prove some one has plans for us. . . . how he walked out alive and just with a scratch I will never know, lucky fool!
I dont drink these days. I am allergic to alcohol and drugs. I breakout in handcuffs!
The less people know about how sausages and laws are made, the better they'll sleep at night.

You see what apears to be a gas tank in the back is really a tank full of Nitrous Oxide, hence how he ended up like that.
On northbourne of all places? was he turning out of a side street?

I figure that's about 300mm from death, or at least a serious head injury. It looks like the roof folded in such a way as to push the seat and occupant forward and away from the tree. Damn lucky.
Absolutely nothing. It's about 6mm thick and strengthened by the pressure of the gas inside. The tray would probably wrap around it though. Good install in that it didn't tear loose - the rules must work.
What do people think the blue hose is just visible throught the bonnet nostril?
Agreed, saw some pictures of an accident where a semi hit a taxi, ripped off the whole back end and launched the tank a couple of meters down the road. Tank looked alright but the cur was maggotted.
Just that flexi piping stuff to attach to pieces of metal piping together, they use alot on air intakes and intercoolers.....
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm looks like a fun night, although he/she were most probably asking for it to happen, it really does bring relief when you see they walk away.
What an idiot. He could've killed some one. Why does he deserve to live.... I assume he was racing or doing something illegal.

it's just a lil twisted
it's still good, it's still good.
shotgun buying the vy ss wheels![]()
Looks like a repost of mine...
You don't know what the hell you're talking about... That thing had about 400rwkw! Met the little asian guy that owns it at a Gentech Dyno Day at the end of last year. Until you know the facts, don't comment!
Take the wheels!
I'll take the 400rwkw twin turbo LS1 on dedicated gas with twin gas carbies!!! Not a scratch on it.
Why the hell is this being reposted though? This happened MONTHS ago on Northbourne Ave. Guy launched it off at the lights, hit boost and lost the rear. The painted lines of the track he took are still on the road from the traffic ops investigation as well as the marks up the kerb and the bark off the tree.
Initially there was talk of street racing but I'm not 100% on that. Still, he clearly couldn't handle the power he'd put into his daily work hack... Shame - was a nicely done peice of kit.
Stock VY SS and 235's would have been a little strained.
