Very interesting.......
Grand Illusion: Petrol Prices Are NOT Going Up
damn i should have collected US quarters, I'd be so rich if i sold them now.
lets all change or money for silver quarters and melt em and become millionares
MY VY SV8 HBD http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/...y-sv8-hbd.html
its quite funny really, everything is becoming inflated....everything except our wages...
here's another interesting tidbit too, like the American federal Reserve mentioned in the vid the Reserve Bank of Australia is also privately owned!
Who really owns the Reserve Bank of Australia
yer sometimes i wish i was born 20 years ago, so i could have my fun with hot cars and be able to pay for the petrol and get a slap on the wrist for a burnout instead of going to court. all i ever wanted is a v8 but now i don't think i'll ever get one unless i want to spend my whole weeks pay on fuel (which i practically used to do driving a 6cly vh around)
by the way nice user name![]()
Haven't read the article but I thought it was common knowledge that adjusted for inflation, petrol is still a lot more affordable than it has ever been.
I still think transport costs are higher these days.
Petrol at $1.80/L (Premium), City link is about $6 each day, parking is $18.50.
Costs me around $30-35 a day to get to/from work.
About $150 a week. Add to that weekend driving, insurance, servicing etc... I reckon i spend $350-400 a week on car related costs. Plus add tax in at 30%, means i have to earn $450-500 just to break even...
not if your a lead foot it won't lol...once those 8's go past 4k rpm you don't have fuel for long....im guessing anyway thats what my 5L's like.
on the weekend i was out doing some spirited driving, having the ol 5L not under 3.5k rpm and half a tank lasted about an hour, reset the l/100km and when i was finished it was reading 26L/100kmexpensive drive but bloody good fun

just think about the poor americans... their all screaming because of their fuel price (Which in our equivalent) i heard has just reached $1.00 per ltr. poor poor souls...
im not surprised that alot of our v8's are going to the middle east, poor iran has had their fuel price spike to 15c a ltr.
Imagine that... should i buy an iced coffee... or should i fill up the car?
Consider yourselves lucky!
According to Episode 1 of Season 11 of Top Gear, petrol is 251.4 cents per litre (that's more than $2.50 a litre) in the UK!!!
Personally I think it should be the same out here and can't wait until when it is. More space on the roads for me![]()
If the Australian Dollar remains at the current trend ie, the exchange rate is quite high then we can buy imports at a cheaper price.
That means crude oil and other items we import can be obtained at a cheaper rate.
If the US dollar collapses or goes into a backward trend then our dollar may get stronger in price and as it does the price of crude should stabilize or become cheaper.
There's evidence that the Asian markets are taking precautions against a fall in the "Green-back" (US dollar).
However, if the US dollar becomes stronger and the Aussie dollar weakens then you will quickly feel your hip pocket becoming slimmer.
For the guys that get top wages, you are paying 45cents for each dollar you earn.
We all pay the fuel excise and we all pay GST.
So, for those guys that say they are not really worried if fuel goes to $3 per litre you in fact are paying $4.35 per litre while the guy on a lower wage, say 15cents in a dolllar would be paying $3.45
Having said that; you may be able to import all those lovely Chev parts that you've been dreaming of and the LS7 may become a bit cheaper![]()

By your provided information you were born 20 years ago! Now - get an injected 5 litre or newwer - it will use similar or less fuel than the old blue motors ever did.
On a broader issue, what we have now is no different to the oil shocks we had in the 70's and early 80's, once again (to a lesser extent) in the early 90's during the Gulf war Mark1 and many other instances in modern history.
not quite - it is approaching (if it hasn't eclipsed) the highs of the engery crisis of the 70's. Things are made worse because we are coming off a very low base. Not many people realise that the cost of oil was around US$9 per barrel in 1999. This was un-sustainably low and thus very little investment in exploration and refining took place. We are paying for that now. The overall cost of oil has long since hit a point where previous uneconomic oil fields are now worth drilling plus the golden carot for r&d into alternative fuel sources is bigger than ever.

WRONG!
I only pay 45 cents tax out of each dollar I earn OVER $150,000.
For every dollar I earn between $75,001 and $150,000 I pay 40 cents tax out of each dollar.
For every dollar I earn between $25,001 and $75,000 I pay 30 cents out of each dollar. This will change as of July 1 to 30 cents out of each dollar for every dollar I make between $30,001 and $75,000.
For every dollar I earn between $6,001 and $25,000 I pay 15 cents out of each dollar. This will change as of July 1 to 15 cents out of each dollar for every dollar I make between $6,001 and $30,000.
For every dollar I earn from $0 to $6,000 I pay no tax.
It always amazes me how many people dont actually understand how the incrimental income tax system we have works.
Individual income tax rates
Yes - so? Actually a lot of people dont pay GST on fuel.
Id love to know how you work that out... It makes absolutely no sense! Everyone pays the same price for petrol. A lot of us though, don't pay the GST component on petrol though...
I know a tradie who has a work mate that refuses to let himself earn too much because he doesn't want to pay the highest tax bracket. He refuses to listen or understand how the income tax system actually works! WHAT A JOKE!!! Both of them have the potentional to earn SOOOO much more money than they do...
It's both sad and funny at the same time!![]()

Yes that's correct after that large amount of money you would pay 45 cents in each dollar
But you probably negative gear so infact wouldn't be paying much tax at all.
Having said that; thanks for explaining how the taxation system works![]()
