Slap an extra payment on my HECS debt, buy a K&N Filter, put a little into my high interest savings account and put the rest towards my car loan.

I'm not sure exactly how you place the payment its something I will look at soon. Its either 10% or 25% off of lump sum payments over $500 I think. I get a $132 coming out of my fortnightly pay so I'm keen on getting it out of the way.

EDIT: There is a whole heap of info on the ato webiste for paying HECS

WTF pay off your HECS debt??? It is *the* cheapest loan you will ever have. Just bang the money into even an averagely performing cash management fund will return more after tax $$$ then your HECS interest. Hunt around and you should find a term deposit that will pay even more.

It will be a small portion of the total refund I get and most of the money would be going to pay off my car and my high interest savings so if I have those bases covered whats the harm in tackling my HECS at the same time.

Working from home primarily I claim percentages on everything as well as depreciate certain things. Last year took 6 hours with my sister in law to get my tax done heh.

Anything you paid for that helped you earn your income. You're a painter, so did you have to buy anything for your job?

Uniforms? Washing your uniforms (even if you do it at home)?

If you spent it to earn, it's a deduction. Put very simply.

A couple of tools, a lot of k's on my car, about 7000. I've kept all the receipts from the fuel plus dates and k's of the trips i made, is that enough?

Umm, yeah new shoes and pants etc, have all the receipts for them as well.

But there’s electronics that I have bought, a camera, which is used only for work. GPS for getting to sites lol

But what else can I claim? I heard you can claim up to $300 on curtain things without receipts, this correct?

i like tax time = mod time

i think your camera and gps will already exceed the 300 so it wont matter.

clothes and shoes are not tax deductible unless they are job SPECIFIC, so normal shirts and **** are not deductible, unless they have logos etc.

i always deduct % off my calls txt etc, throw in some km's from car, i keep all receipts so if ATO want to check i'l throw them the whole lot and say here sort through this mess and organise it alphabetical for me
