Default ECOmmodore - Hybrid, diesel and dedicated LPG to power Commodore

See the link below for details from Wheels magazine:

    Wheels - ECOmmodore

No word on DOD which I thought would be a definate inclusion.

DOD should be coming, They are doing that with the G8 so you would expect it too come to us.

I just re-read it and it does make a mention of cylinder deactivation on the V8 hybrid. At least holden is looking at a few options.

did anyone read the comments at the bottom of the page?
I like the idea of a hybrid v8 but i don't see any valuable gain for a hybrid unless you do a lot of city driving. I know desiel is more expensive but you get more ltre/100kms or mpg. they get very close to a hybrid in the city and **** all over them on the hwy, gas is another good alternative but the federal gov is adding the same tax you get on petrol to gas so gas will one day be just as expensive as 91oct.

Holden had the v8 in the sportswagon prototype with cylinder shutdown and E85 compatable so it will be good to see.

Yeah, I'm a fan of diesels. A lot of people don't realise just how economic they can be even with the higher prices associated with purchasing one and filling one up. One of the blokes here at work at a Golf diesel, gets over 1000km from quite a small tank - 55 litres. My VZ has a 75L tank and gets close to 700km off a tank so if I had a diesel I reckon it would do more than 1200km off a tank and this very impressive indeed

Yeah, a v8 that deactivates cylinders and has hybrid technology would be good...

You've got the grunt and sound when you need it, say for towing or acceletating.

And when your cruising you your running off a electric motor...

And doo thing they are looking at the diesel technology... though diesel is pretty damn pricey.

My ex's dad had a diesel something or other... got 1200km from a 50L tank if i remember right.

Isn't the whole point of a hybrid to allow the use of a smaller engine which can then operate at more efficient loads?

Seems like a pretty dumb idea if you want to save fuel. If, on the other hand, the goal is to increase performance, sell performance cars to people that would like to feel like they are doing something good and perhaps collect a handout from the govt. for a "green" car, might be a good call.

Cylinder deactivation (DOD) is a cheaper way of achieving most of the same gains especially if it was combined with an idle shut off function. Both together, like a Diesel hybrid, doesn't see a cumulative effect.

Perhaps hybrid technology will have to be introduced on high end cars first though, and let the technology trickle down. Might be easier to make a business plan based on that.

the cheapest hybid i know of is the Prius, thats around the price of a new manual ss, if you live in the city yeah a hybrid would be fine, tho you wouldn't know that anything was coming until it hit you.lol. like i said in my previous post, yes diesel is more pricey but you get more km's to a tank. i wonder if fuel prices were this high when holden originally did the hybrid concept with the vt whether they would've gone through and made it a production model. i don't see how a hybrid camry is gonna be just as economical than the prius.
