Victoria police win power to fine for minor offences | Herald Sun
It's been a long wait but it's finally here from July 1.
Under the trial fines of between $227 and $272 can be issued for the following offences:
- shop theft for goods worth less than $600;
- wilful damage of property worth less than $500;
- indecent or obscene behaviour;
- offensive behaviour;
- consuming or supplying liquor on unlicensed premises;
- failure to leave licensed premises when requested; and,
- careless driving by a fully licensed driver.
I tell you what, coppers around Victoria will be giving a hell of a lot more for Careless Driving, myself included. It normally involves having to prepare a brief of evidence and summons them to court. That means paperwork and time.
Tickets are always the preferred option over everything else.
So these offences are no longer summary offences, just the equivalent to a parking ticket?
If I got caught shoplifting and got one of these tickets, would my record still be clean? Also, why doesn't the careless driving apply to P platers?
What happens if i steal $599 worth of goods, whilst damaging $499 worth of property when naked?

Hi VicCop...
What is defined as careless driving by a fully licensed driver?
Also, will you cop demerit points for 'careless driving'?
Edit: Also, do these have to be issued on the spot or are they mailed out (i.e. do you have to be pulled over to receive it)?
Being careless. Open to interpretation but simply being careless or better put by saying "not paying due care an attention". This one mostly comes out as the result of collisions. Like changing the car CDs and running up someones arse.
Not sure. Probably not. I haven't looked a the penalties yet.
Same applies as other traffic ticket, except ones detected by cameras, the driver needs to be identified. Yes, stopped on the spot and spoken to, but the ticket won't necessarily need to be given straight away. Just like other tickets it can be served by mail.
Ticket by mail is a popular way to do it. Saves me time sitting there writing one out on the spot. Rather stop, speak to person, confirm ID, say bye and go catch the next one. Then spend half hour to an hour at the end of the shift, or even the next day, writing the tickets out and posting them.
