    Default My Dilemma

    O.k. So here goes.

I have had a project car (an EH) sitting in the garage for the last 5 years awaiting attention (waiting for the kids to grow up and start sleeping). It needs a full rebuild, paint interior ect. Originally I was going to use the red six, but since the wife has taken away my V8 Calais to use as her daily (the seats were easier to move, yeah rigghttttt ) I got myself a VQ statesman v8 with the intention to put the v8 in the EH.

But the thing is I got the car real cheap but it only needs a few front steering bits to get it back on the road on the way to becoming a pimpmobile. It has all electrics (even a sunroof) and everything just needs a bit of TLC to make it look the goods.

Now I am torn between which one I should do up, the EH will take alot more money (which I don't have a lot of) + engineering but is of course a classic car and the VQ isn't. The VQ has all the mod con gear and wouldn't be that hard to tidy up. I also have a supra 5 speed which I intended for the EH, this could be used for a manual VQ

So there it is, my dilemma, Can anyone help me

this is what I would do

Get the VQ on the road, use it as a daily. In the mean time buy a 308 or a 350 and bolt that up to the 5speed in the EH

id sell the vq, buy an old school corolla as a daily, like a ke55 etc. pimp that a little, eg stereo, clean it up. chrome dinner plate hubbies with whitewalls.

then spend the money you save from insurance and petrol + the leftover money from the VQ on the EH.

I have a good daily already. I don't need this car to be in use right away (I have a EF Ghia S2). The thing is I don't really have rooom for all the cars. My head says the VQ simply because of the money and the skills I will gain out of fixing it will be alot more usefull for me than going with lots of one off stuff for the EH.

On the otherhand the EH is such a classic car, it would just take alot of time, money, more time

It is a shame. I got this thing before I knew about wife, kids, house. I don't blame them for not being able to get to it and I wouldn't change anything for quids, but it just seems like I never get any serious time on the thing.

the guy across the road from mum and dads has been building an FJ ute for around 15 years, so time is no boundry. if i was in your situation id build the EH with the VQ running gear. even if you just get it all in and working you can work on the finer details later.

I would fix up the VQ and sell it off, then use the $$$ to put into the EH.Look into fitting a later commo Chev motor for the EH.Its been done.
Im in the process of trying to get a 1966 pontiac and my Clubby will be bye bye if i get it.Vq's are a dime a dozen, use it as a stepping stone to get what you really want.

Just as a flollowup to this

Got underneath the EH to start cleaning it up. Found some rust holes as big as my fist under the diff and fuel tank area.

    VQ it is

Sad, I got the shell thinking it was pretty rust free, how wrong I was.

    Thanks for your responses

rust holes arent much of a prob. check out rare spares they had floor pans back when i did my last eh about 10 years ago.
if you start looking for a doner car, check out station wagons as they dont seem to get rust in the back. all the floors are the same in them.
    cheers shane
