First, have a look at this pic...
Now u see, those PEAKN6 plates my brother purchased through TransportSA. He's had them for a few years.
Now take a look at this link...
Personalised number plates - eBay Australian, Number Plates, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 02-Jul-08 23:03:41 AEST)
How come there is 2 PEAKN6 plates registered to 2 different people?? Is this allowed. Is it allowed as one is in SA and the other in VIC? They're are both personalised plates, but even tho they are in different states it just doesn't seem right.
Anyone know if this is legal? Maybe a mistake made by someone.

wow, i didnt think this was legal.![]()
It's perfectly legal. No two plates that are the same can be in use in the same state, but being registered to another state is fine. The owner of the vehicle can be identified by the state that the plate shows. If you take notice of the plates you'll see the states clearly marked on each.
Vehicle registration numbers are done state by state. For police to look up the plate to find the owners, they have to first select what state the plate is registered to if it's is in another state to which they are stationed in.

oh right, thats handy to know, learn something new everyday
Theres a VN2NV in nearly every state in Australia im pretty sure (unfortunately)
i bet no 1 has OHH YEH![]()
but other then that its in another state so its all good
No them getting pinched isn't my worry....I just thought it was a duplicate plate, as I didn't know one plate could exist more then once throughout Australia. What if we went over to VIC, or that other guy came here, and if they were on similar cars, we could get blamed for something we didn't do if someone reports it (and police have the power to give u fines and impound even from just someone ringing up and telling them u did a skid). So yeah it just seems a bit dodgy. But if it's legal well that's ok then, just wasn't sure.
Thx for the replies.![]()
