Default Source of the Best car advice

I know most about cars from my dad who spent the last 43 years of his adult life as a mechanic. He passed away last June.

I was wondering where does the Holden community, the men and women on this forum, get their best car tips, lessons, technical know-how etc. Did you all learn from the internet? got some mechanics as friends? Mechanically inclined? Friends with same cars?

I got a bmw 3 series and now the vx, which is enough for my needs. How bout the rest?

i learned a bit from my dad, he was a mechanic for abt 20 odd years, then changed industries. if i dont have a clue, il ask dad about it. If all else fails, talk to the neighbour who is a mechanic, and he'll point me in the right places to go to, and the ones to stay away from.

A few of my old mates who i grew up with were always into cars, so i got a few things along the way.
dont worry, il start a ride thread soon.

This forum, the interenet, other forums and people in the field but not who have anything to gain. Workshop manuals and HowStuffWOrks is also good.

Ask a panel beater for mechanical advice and it will be pretty spot on. A lot of mechanics give good painting advice also. I just hit people up for information if they're in the know, most are quite happy to share their knowledge.

Tottally agree, Any car enthusiest is always happy to help another one out, you do get the occasional wanker but normally all of them are pretty good. I've meet alot of people doing up my VK, some have been a huge help, some have been a little bit helpful, and some have stood with me and gone ""ummm **** how we gonna fix that", but all these people have helped me in some way, whether it be brain storming to getting our hands dirty. People I dont know have gone out of their way to help me along the years and now i do the same for anyone willing to learn or appreciate the help.
Just a few randoms places ive meet people who have helped me out with my car in some way.
Car forums, Sisters boyfriends, The tip, garage sales, automotive stores, parties, wreckers, camping, through buying other cars, yahoo pool.
