Early online reports are confirming that Big Brother has been axed by Network Ten, amid speculation that the reality TV juggernaut was on the way out, after falling ratings and mixed reactions to new hosts Kyle and Jackie O.
A moderator on the official Big Brother forum leaked the information ahead of an official statement from the Network.
"Hi everyone. I can confirm Big Brother won't be renewed on Channel 10 in 2009.
A statement with more information will be forthcoming. Thank you, Lulu." the moderator said.
The former ratings winner has experienced a lackluster 2008 after attempts to revitalize the series were unsuccessful.
Fans decried the decision to remove long running host Gretel Killeen, and replace her with 2DAY FM shock jocks Kyle and Jackie O.
The removal of the popular spin-off Big Brother Up Late was also an unpopular decision among fans.
There have also been suggestions that ratings gimmicks, like the recent addition of Baywatch star Pamela Anderson, acted as a nail in the coffin for the show.
Unofficial fan website Behind Big Brother also reported that the Big Brother “concept” will return to Channel 10 in an unspecified form, but won’t be seen until at least 2010.
“Our sources inside the Big Brother compound tell us the announcement was unexpected for the BB producers, who did what they felt was in the best interests of the show and believed this year would be a season benchmark.” The website announced.

Pfffft **** TV my behind.... We have a million shows & movies on there we watch often and when we want, the kids have a wide choice of EDUCATIONAL shows unlike what ABC has to offer.

I used to have the same attitude to Foxtel about 2 years ago, then we got it installed and haven't looked back

The only reason i would have it is if you could pick the channels you wanted and only paid for that. Bugger paying $50 min per month for heaps more ads and movies that get played over and over.

30 same opinions are gonna be very boring.

I still believe it should be on TV, if it's commercially justified. As long as it meets the TV guidelines, meets relevant legislation and has enough viewers, it should definitely be allowed on TV.

You can't legislate against poor taste. You can only hope that the demographic is smart enough to turn off the TV, rather than watch the crap. The fact that more than 1 season was made, says more about society than the producers of the show.

So if by pro-BB you mean people who it shouldn't be banned, then I'm pro BB. Demand determines what's on TV anyway, not as much supply.

Thank christ its gone. However it will probally come back on CH7 or something as they wanted it if CH10 didnt renew its contract. If it doesnt come back on CH7 it will come back in the form of another ****ty reality show. You just cannot escape it.
