    Ive just bought both!

slightly lower power consumption with lcd.
Which has better picture(for the same res) I reckon lcd, but have a look yourself, they are both really good now.
Plasmas are cheaper/ get more screen per $.
Warranties aren't as long on some plasmas, most sets have antiburn software now for if you leave it with the dvd menu on screen etc.

Im sure there are other numbers to compare.

What size? Up to 46 inch I would recommend LCD. 50 inch and over I would recommend Plasma because LCDs getting up to that size cant match the performance of Plasma.

LCD of choice would be the Samsung 46 inch F8 (LA46F81BDX).
Plasma of choice would be the Pioneer 50 inch Kuro (PDP-LX508A) but its close to $6000. If thats too much then the Samsung 50 inch Series 5 (PS50A550), or Series 6 (PS50A650).

My brother got a cheap panasonic LCD and it already has a few dead pixels.
My grandparents got a cheap plasma, and it had big black strips down it.
So whatever you get, make sure you are buying quality

The LCD definately has better picture quality though

We went with the 50" plasma for our entertainment system, 42" sony LCD for other. Colors on the Plasma for me are so much better. As for quality, side by side we can not notice the difference except that the plasma seems to produce better color.

Should mention also, if you plan on using it for gaming, go an LCD, plasma's suck ass for animation.

Gaming also burns out the plasma screens.

Great topic, we are looking at buying a couple of tv's for the new house, does anyone have any advice as to whether plasma or lcd would be better with kids, specifically which would be less prone to damage?

When it comes to kids, cheapest is best

The new model bravia's are good but to me i think they're a bit pricey. Samsung defenitly make the best LCD's and thats why many company including lg and sony use samsung panels (sony use to not sure if they still do).
I have a 32inch samsung and think its awesome only problem is i think its too small now go the 42inch

If you want a quality plasma, go Pioneer. We've got a 43" Pioneer plasma (about 3 years old now) and the quality absolutely sh1ts on every plasma and LCD I've seen. Pretty sure it came with a 3 year warranty too.

There's a tool on the Samsung website I found last week. You select what distance you sit from the tv and the lighting in the room and it will recommend what size LCD or Plasma and models in their range that fit the requirements. Quite handy, tells you the reasons to go for plasma or lcd.
