SWEETNow ya just know the japs are gonna be tuning the V-spec model a touch more:P
Wow 3 seconds quicker...bugger all. I'd take the GTR any day of the corvette. When the **** are GM going to produce a small quick V8. seems they think bigger is better.

someone needs to take a twin turbo LS3 around that track..
WOW.... Nissan gtr 470hp and 1740kg the Corvette 638hp and 1519kg and only 3 second across 10 miles of racetrack , nissan really got its arse handed to them.
Seriously its not that impressive GM should put some more effort into developing chassis' and suspension than into developing more horsepower. Lets not go into CI capicaty aswell
we need a quad cam LSx motor! come on GM get with the technology program. holden did have a quad cam development 5 litre but was killed off when toyota beat em on pricing.

does it get any tuffer than that... i dont think so ey!
getting stuck on speed humps snice ya grandma was a virgin...
What i find more impressive than the corvette ZR-1 is that Minux and I agree on something![]()
these cars are not raced as "factory" cars on the ring, they cheat and put on race slicks etc :P
3 secs over a 7min drive? thats like a couple missed gear changes etc not a big deal, give both cars to the stig and the lap times would be more unified.
Have to say, the GTR did a sub 1:20 around top gears test track. That is bloody impressive and QUICKER than the Mclaren SLR Mercedes. Lets see the Vette do that.

Driver comes into it as well, from what I remember, the guy that ran the GTR around the ring had done it a ridiculous amount of times (Edmunds stated he has lapped the ring several HUNDRED times, with the GTR's times going from 7 minutes 55, to 7 minutes 38 before it set its final record of 7 minutes 28? seconds) and it took alot of laps to get that time. After all, the GTR's first official time was 7 minutes 38 seconds... How many more runs did it take to shave those 9 seconds off?
Was the GTR using stock tyres like the corvette? Was it using stock fuel as well?
Also, the Corvette may have alot more power than the GTR but there is only 0.3 seconds difference between the two cars down the quarter mile (0.2 seconds 0-60mph). The Corvette is only fractionally faster down a straight line than the GTR, so surely its handling is not that bad (especially for a RWD car).
And at the end of the day, its AWD vs RWD. AWD is a pretty big advantage around a track, so for a RWD car that is only 0.3 seconds quicker on the straight stuff, to beat an AWD car is very impressive, even if it is just by 3 seconds.

^^ It was 7:29 for the GTR sorry. And to answer my own question, the GTR used Bridgestone Semi-Slicks, whilst the ZR1 used Michelin PS2 tyres.
There are alot of other cars that weigh less with similar or more power than the ZR1 that are slower (and cost alot more).
4.) Corvette ZR1 647hp 1519kg 7:26.4
5.) Pagani Zonda F Clubsport 650hp 1230kg 7:27.82
6.) Porsche Carrera GT 612hp 1380kg 7:28
9.) Pagani Zonda F 602hp 1371kg 7:33
10.) Koenigsegg CCR 806hp 1180kg 7:34
11.) RUF RT12 659hp 1573kg 7:35
The Koenigsegg CCR definitely stands out with 806hp and only 1180kg yet it is 8 seconds slower around the ring than the Corvette. Further down the list there are plenty more from the likes of Lamborghini, Bugatti, Ferrari, Mercedes, BMW, Ford GT etc.
doesn't matter if it was 1/2 sec or 10 seconds, a win is a win no matter what the margin. the fact of the matter is that the corvette is still a factory stock car, any man can work on it. the GT-R is a factory specialist vehicle. need specialist equipment to service, the ECU is locked so people can't screw with it etc. at the end of the day, the ring is the most testing track in the world. if a rear wheel drive car can match, nay, beat a AWD car that impressive in my book
yes, it's time that GM worked on small blocks and made em rev etc, multi valve/multi cams would be nice. the fact of the matter is that power by cubes is easier.
still, it's got that 8 cylinder symthony
semi-slicks would be worth more then a few seconds over street tyres also, especially over a couple of laps, the standard road tyres just wouldn't hold up at all

I thought the Z06 was the stock version and the ZR-1 was the Upper spec vehicle. Techanically the GT-R is the base model and the V-spec is the upper level model. Vn2nv I think the guy driving the corvette has been around a time or I highly doubt he punched out out that time on his first lap and went yeah that as good as it gets.
