All this stuff about Commodore drivers being Hoons got me thinking in the wee hours of the morning (not caffine induced)
My Dad was a 1st class Hoon with motor bikes and cars.
If they were not stuffing a holden motor into a Morry they were drag racing DKW's down Hindley Street. Doing figure 8's in the Honda 4 & sidecar (with us in it) to belting down the road in the EH at around 100 mph to get it in air over on a rise in the road.
So it's in my blood to be a Hoon sort of. I try to control my self but every now and then it brakes out and opps Hooned again.
Now my dad is almost 72 and he still loves a bit of Hooning (like when I had the VX S/C car) Mum hated it - Dad just grinned for an hour after it.
So does anyone else think it's in the blood - was/is your Dad a Hoon too?

My old man used to own race car driver Gary Willmington's personal car.
A 1967 XR Falcon with a worked 200 "Super Pursuit" six pack, in manual.
He bought it in 1971 and traded it in around 1984. Still reckons it was the most reliable car he had. My mum was booked a few times in it, doing 90mph on the highway.
He then bought a HSV enhanced VP Calais in 1994, the one I have now, and proceeded to scare the crap out of me with several 200km/hr+ runs up the back of Mt Keira![]()
Yes
I am glad to say, that in the years we didnt have contact he lost his hooniness. When I started visiting again, he found his inner hoon which he feeds regularly, on Fords.
my dad wasnt a hoon ,never owned a V8 never did burnouts (to the best of my knowledge) and his first nice car was a HK wagon, lol. it sucks, coz mates could say to there olds' "well you did it" and get away with it and i couldnt. oh well. did it anyway![]()
Yeah
My old man had an EH Ute, got done doing 98mph.
Then, when he got a ford capri he use to scare the S### out of us going too fast in the Adelaide hills. (hit the guard rail)

My old man was a bit of a hoon in his youth going by his stories and the amount of cars he wrote off. He's just an old man SUV driver now! He's also a one-eyed Ford fanboy as well!![]()
Yeah, to the best of my knowledge he was. My old man had an LC Torana 186, 3 spd manual column shift. He got it airbourne on a run from Whyalla to Adelaide back in the '70's, when he went as fast as he could, not sure how fast he was going. I share the same addiction to speed.
My uncle (mums side) was and still is a hoon. He was the first man in Pt Lincoln to own a Ford XB GT 351...rolled it, and about 5 other cars he rolled. My cousins have had Monaro's, Scorpions, VL Turbo's, SS Commodores, and apart from one, have all lost their license at least once.
Its in my blood on both sides.
My dad was a big hoon from his first 'brand new' car
one of these in this colour
to these
he says he and his mates used to ride thru the hills at night and try to get sparks off the bikes when turning!
Shut up when I'm talkin' to you, you hear me, answer me!
my old man takes about 5 minutes to reverse out of our driveway, he's the opposite of a hoon!
bloody well drives a brand new 328i and doesn't even use the power it has![]()

both my parents are hoons. my dad has laid a full set of tyres down in the street from the corvette (and his work ute lol). my mum isnt a 'hoon' as such, she just speeds everywhere and hasnt been caught (much to the shock of the rest of my family).
my old boy is the opposite of a hoon. the thought of doing a burnout or flogging a car scares him.
he has had some cool cars though.
HK monaro,
HQ GTS
XE ESP
12A Rx3 - bought brand new (i wish he kept it)
and a PP 13B Rx2
my old man was a hoon and used to own a torana slr5000 but sold it when my sister was born was booked around 5-6 times im shattered he sold as is he as there worth a mint these days and sound and look awsome also
i say trade in my sister back in for the slr![]()

my dad was a volkswagon nut, he had about 4 beetles and ripped them all apart. in broken hill he used to do 180's, 360's etc on dirt roads which there was alot of. him and his mates used to take their parents valiants out and thrash them down a 1/8th street strip in their area. he eventually rolled a volxie into brownhill creek when he came to adelaide. he slowed down since then.
still boots his 2.5L v6 astina with factory strut braces and big swaybars through the hills through.
Mums a hoon, not my dad.Think my 2 yr old will be one the way he is going.Loves the sound of my VT when the foot goes down.
HAHA My old man was a hoon (settled down now though) but back in the day i remember him getting ****ed @ this bloke who wouldn't sell me cigies at the servo (i was underage by a year ect) so the old man lit the tyres up in the vs 5ltr stato on the way out with the finger out the window.. lol (i know imature and stupid but was kinda funny @ the time!)
My mum is a shocker- Never could convince her to leave her position as Head of Pit Crew & actually race thou.....
My dad was always into bikes/cars/buggys but I never saw him til I was 16-17 so never knew that much of him unfortunetly & didnt benefit as much as I could.
My Step-dad raced dragsters/funny cars etc for years, which is why I found myself the owner of a junior fueler at age 12. Our house & his workshop was always full of mates & odd stuff, have a couple drinks & lets see if we can fit a small block & a 9" into a Cortina..... lol yeah it happened......
Sadly he was killed a number of years ago.
My dad came down to visit a little while ago & bagged up his Hilux turbo diesel with LSD right next to a little lancer, the girls in the car crapped themselves, I & the otehrs in the car could not stop laughing! 4X4 tyres have a very loud sound- So yeah he might be a grandfather of 6 but he is still out there building burnout machines with my little brother, or trying to show up his son-in-laws!
My dad? Well no...But his dad and a couple of his brothers are
One of my uncles has heaps of stories like how he got done doing a burnout in grandpas '79 Falcon 500 AMS, or how quick his turbo forester gets to 200.
Another uncle has a VT clubsport, turbo barina and is building a HJ? (well an old ute anyway) ute with skyline suspension and VS GTS engine and gearbox. He has too many stories to list.
Grandpa loves comparing his many cars. The falcon 500 doesn't get out anymore, but he thinks his new accord sticks to the road better at 180 than his BA or old accord
I know where I get my love of cars from

My dad drives like a grandpa. Lucky I don't share the same gene....
My dad is still a hoon too, Had many cars and many crashes Loved his motorbikes too had a Ducati 900??? which he stacked on the dirt road that led to our old house on the way home from the pub one night got some mad gravel rash and a broken arm for his stupidity. Bike ended up getting a nice british racing green respray and he still blames me to this day for losing his keys to it, which of coarse i never did.....
So there is hope for me yet - when I go fully grey and still want to hoon around. (got my first grey hairs this year)

My dad was a hoon, he owned a car yard for 20 yrs or so and saw a number of hot cars and bikes come and go. Early 70s he owned an XT GT Falcon and lost his licence within a month of owning it, so after that my mum drove it around. We're currently restoring an XT GT to look just like that one.
