Default Ripped off by my tax Agents WTF!!!

I got home today and had NOA in the mail. So i go onto internet banking to check my account and My agents, H&R block have forwarded my return minus their fee but at the same time they decided to help themselves to some of my return. I won't go into exact amount buit let's say its about 10% of my return.
I'm pretty upset about mainly because these people are accountants and they're supposed to be able to count. The lady on the phone sadi give me your phone number and i will call you back.
I'm like hey wait a minute i want to know WTF going you basically stolen money off me. That got her a bit upset and i said well you havent explained to me what your going to about it. So in the end she is going to ring head office and get back to me and i look forward to hearing from them.
It's got me angry i have always had my returns refunded this way and never had a problem. You'd think accounts would be able to get their sums right

I've been dealing with H&R block for years and haven't had any problems. But then again I guess it depends on which branch you deal with. I've got an appointment tomorrow night at 7.30 to get my tax done. How much was their fee this year? Still around the $100 mark?

Fee was $110 + 27 for for taking it out of my return and depositing the rest into my account. I assume the mistake was made somewhere there.

Yeah so am i i was quite wound up when i made the thread and it was only 10 minutes later when they rang me so they did sort it out quickly for me which was much appreciated

Why do people with easy tax returns bother paying someone to do it for them? You can download Etax(the same program all those ****ty HR Block like companies use) for free from ATO. You can then submit electronically and have the cash dropped straight into your account 4-5 days later(last year was 3 days this year 4).

I do a mock etax each year to get a rough idea of what I can expect back. I'm no idiot but I always get a better return through a tax agent than what I can with etax. Some people may want to be careful with doing your own tax return unless you really know what you're doing. If the tax office comes after me H&R Block will go into bat for me at no cost. You do your own returns it's you against the tax office.

When I lived in Sydney I had my returns done at the Norwest Business park H&R block. They were brilliant and one of them was VERY good looking Last year I went to the H&R Block around the corner for the first time and the elderly woman who looked like one of the 'Golden Girls' was sitting out the front sucking on a cigarette said "I guess you're next" Not a pleasant thought.

This is my first year I've had to do a tax return.....trying etax but waiting on centrelink to send me the tax report thing from when I was on a DSP. It seems ok so far, if sumfin doesn't seem right at the end I rekon I'll just go to an agent.

tax office arnt the best. but the past 2 years, ive had the best lady to do mine (no not mum)
Pub 24/7 whr u do urs at? chelsea H&R?
I wne there in 06,a nd the woman, was writing all my info down... get to the end. was gettin about a grand or so back.. i told the woman to deposit into my bank acc... but never happend.
1week after, i call up and see whr it is... she says ATO is busy.. fair call.
2.5weeks later i ring again, the 'stupid' woman had filled it in wrong, and ticked the 'send cheque' BUT she put the wrong address on the sheet... so it ended up at someone elses house. after 4weeks
Rang ATO and they deposited str8 away.
dont worry, il start a ride thread soon.

Have to agree with Minux and the others. E-tax is simple if you know what you are doing, and every taxpayer should have a fair idea of their tax obligations and entitlements. I have used E-tax since it was introduced. I do agree though that whilst it is great for simple returns, once you start dealing with franking credits, imputations, CGT, ETP's etc, it can become a nightmare. That's when the agents are handy, but for simple returns, learn a bit and save a lot.

i agree Etax is good for the simple returns.
not because it's hard for the complex ones, but theire are glaring omittance

Well I had my tax done at H&R Block last night and only got back $350. I couldn't believe it I was expecting about $600 - $700. I came home and did another mock etax entering the same details and came back with a $299 return.

Something I don't understand (and I'd like any tax experts to explain this) is that I had over $900 worth of deductions in work expenses yet my return is only $350. Without ANY deductions I still would have got back $150. So where is the benefit of me spending over $900 on work related resources when I'm only going to see $200 come back into my pocket?

I did Etax.... 11 days later my return is in my account. If you get stuck there is FAQ's and also you can call the ATO and ask them, once you do it once your pretty right from then on. I don't know why people bother paying $110+ when you can DIY for nothing.
