Default Mark Webber Test 09 Slicks

Mark Webber was testing the new slick tyres for F1 2009 season today.

Will be interesting what times come out of it. Funny how groved tyres only lasted a few seasons.

Or there was magic standing water that only he hit and every car after him magically missed it.

dad made sure he got to do the test laps, but mum told him it was to dangerous and had to leave traction control on, even that doesnt help him from spinning out.

Yeah - they were only introduced in Season 1998 so they've only been around for 10 years!!!

he saw luis hamilton drive past the highway next to the test track, he found the need to chase him down and run up his ass while in second position.

the return of the slicks can be put down to a number of things 1. loss of traction cotrol 2. drastic changes in aerodynamic rules reducing aerodynamic down force (and turbulance behind the car) and an increase in mechanical grip to increase passing oportunities. reduced engine power from the change to the v8 engines 2 seasons ago etc it's all about making it a better show for the spectators

Few seasons! hehe man I rekcon the years are passing you by faster than you realise. I think grooved tyres have been aorund for ageeeeeees at LEAST 8 years maybe more. In fact I'm going to look it up but it's definatly more than a few because I wanted them gone ever since they came out so it's seemed a very long time for me.

Away from the groove - Bridgestone on the return of slicksFormula One cars will line up on the grid for this weekend’s Turkish Grand Prix with Bridgestone Potenza grooved racing tyres on them, but for next year’s race the tyres could be very different.

Formula One has raced with grooved tyres since their introduction in 1998, but the regulations for the 2009 season feature a number of changes, including the removal of the stipulation that dry racing tyres must have longitudinal grooves along the tread area.

Horay for slicks anyways . They slowed the cars down quite a few seconds (the grooves) as far as I can remember

P.S Weber is hopeless, he's way too hard on his cars for some reason

My lame guesstimate in my head was about 6 years so a blip in the time of F1. But no, not even close Anyway. as it turns out it's 10 years.

The cars will probably have much better overtaking grip. At the moment most races are just about follow the leader - abit.

Mark is just doing the PR stuff in F1 - making up the numbers. But he's an Aussie and I choose to support him even if he does bust a few cars with a scratch here nic there.

    He's an F1 good guy.
Does what he's told and drives some of the best fast cars in the world against some of the best drivers. What a job to have.

Oh! and build the car better. Make it unbrakeable.

O.k. he is a car breaker, but couldn't the engineer or someone tell him how and why he breaks the car? Surely there would be some data they could use to show him do drive a bit easier or somthing? Just seems like everycar he drives, he breaks.

Imo F1 is heading in a good direction at one point there was electronics doing pretty everything for the drivers with one or two teams way ahead on development speed and lap times. Now they're reeling it back in putting more emphasis on skill and making it closer and more enjoyable to watch. Much more entertaining in my book than V8 supercars.
Everyone bags on webber but hes doing a lot better than some other aussies in different motorsport catergories but nobody bags on them. Hes 8th in the points and red bulls is 5th in the drivers so he exactly where he should be, he has more points than coulthard who is a very good driver though some would say hes getting to old.

A modern F1 car's gear changes are all electronically controlled by computer and it won't let the driver downshift if the revs are too high thus preventing engine damage. Some drivers are prone to bad luck and Mark webber unfortunately is one of them.

A lot of it is that when you drive a 2nd level team car - the budget is smaller and the staff & bits used are cheaper than the level 1 teams.

When MW moved to the Jag team my first thought was oh dear the cars would not finish may races and so it was. Looked great in green but unreliable.

You can't be unlucky like that for that long. He must drive in a unfriendly way, hey if you get enough intense anger up you can seemily blow lightbulbs just switching the light on in you house. Who ever blew a light blub while in a good mood :P not me!. I think it's the same theory in driving a car, he needs to relax out a bit more and then the car wont break, Look at Brock! only his co drivers used to break the car
