Hi Guise,
Well the time has come and the GF is sick of her 97 Daewoo lanos with no power/powersteering. I have come here to ask for models of car that would be adequate. Auto or Manual, No Turbo, No S/C's. Either 4cyl or 6cl. Preferably a coupe with less then 150,000kms on the clock. She wants a bit of oomph, well more then a 1.5L lanos haha. We have been looking at Integras and Preludes, but the one that caught here eye was a Mitsubishi FTO Mivec 2L 6cyl, but because its an import the insurance is worse then my HSV...She is 19 and on her P's. Price range up to 7.5/8k.
Any help would be great! Post away!
non-turbo R33?
There would have to be a few around the price range you are looking at
theres a non turbo r33 for sale down here for 5k. getting cheap
1995 Manual HSV Clubsport
Wade Cam :: 9.2:1 CR :: Pacemaker headers :: Twin 2.5" Exhaust :: VT Brakes
1991 Supercharged VN Berlina
9 PSI SC14 Intercooled :: Genie headers :: Twin cats :: HM Twin 2.25 exhaust :: 3.45:1 LSD
i see you are looking for her. but tell her to get back in the kitchen.
Mazda astina, ncie lil buzz box. guy at work had one. was a smooth lil car.
dont worry, il start a ride thread soon.
any prefrences with age ect ive been looking into these sorta cars as im getting my l's soon
Eureka styles!
Better yet, a four-door n/a skyline. Crappy resale on those things.
Don't net her get an old mazda or FTO. They'll be more trouble than they're worth at this age, and parts are expensive.

Personally id be staying away from anything thats Rice or someone could put a shopping list on the front of. If she is on her P's then she will get pestered by the cops for driving a skyline, anything with a body kit and 2 doors or anything with a bad street rep. Not only that but try finding a grandma spec R33.
Now im not the biggest fan of Mazdas because they make noises that they didnt at the factory, and making the noise go away is only possible by turning up the radio. Toyota, oo thats a reliable car. If i was going for a something reliable and goes nicely, without being a magnet for loosers in R34's with twin cannons and a shopping list worthy of a david jones clearance sale.
My brother has a focus at the moment, he loves it and so far in the last year hasnt had any problem. There might be some of those around cheap. Likewise with some of the newer mazdas. I think that they are built on the same platform.
Before that he had a Hyundai accent. Although nothing broke, at cruising speed it was loud, handled badly, and because it was pre 2001 it did not have air con or even power assisted brakes.
Go a golf!!
Best small car around.

Yay for reply's. Man the GTO was kool, looked good and had a bit of power to weight. Ive been in a NA 33 Skyline before, auto ones are slugs, not sure about fuel usage though. Arnt they classified as imports though aswell?
Also, the town we live in cops arnt an issue. I have been pulled up once since Ive had my GTS.
Insurance on any coupe is more expensive. How about a lancer 2 door though? should be able to find one cheap enough.
Had a look at carsales and found a few under 10K with a manual and the 1.8 engine
50LTRv8
well if you only have 8k to spend i would imagine she doesnt have alot of cash to fix something if it breaks, so rule out anything euro, older golfs arnt all that anyways, there just living off the rep of the new ones,
the 2ltr v6 it the FTO has a few reliablity issues, plus insurance to rule that out.
my vote would be( in no perticular order)
-98-00 CE lancer MR(or any lancer CE with the 1.8)
-N14 pulsar Q, comes with the sr20 same as the SSS without the kit, goes very well for a N/A 4 cylinder,
-corolla twin cam 1.6,
those 3 are cheap, i owned a lancer 2 hell bound p plater years and never let me done once, i know 2 people with the sr20 pulsar and never have had any dramas, and the corolla is a toyota so its meant to be reliable.
i know i'll get flamed from someone with a 5 litre, my friend with his ss which had an exhaust/extractors and a k&n filter was beaten by a pulsar q with the sr20
Chev badges are an instant fail
Can't go past the small Hondas Mack, there should be plenty of them around in in QLD, if you go to the JP areas too. I reckon your first choices are the winners. Basically anything with a Honda badge![]()
So long as it's got a turbo bolted to it anything SR20 should be ashamed to get beaten by anything :0 they are good motors. I don't know anything about Pulsars or if they run a turbo or not :0 but it would take a crap 5 litre to get beat by a na 2 litrebut there is plenty of crap unserviced 5 litres around make no mistake so it's plenty possible.
But Mack (Honda ftw)
considered a 97-99 celica? sis has one, and cannot complain about it, very reliable, no noises, great of fuel and goes well. , probably expensive on insurance though.
In no order I would pick a Lancer, Corolla or a Civic
208rwkw 13.5 @ 102MPHSTROKED AND BLOWN
Pffft Lancer....all of em are just try hard Magna's.
Get her a Magna, hell wikkid cars and they have a bit of guts too.
Fagna's ftl lol
What about a Holden Astra or a Toyota corrolla ?? Thats the two i would be looking for, for her IMO....
Yep...lol it took a thrashing too, a TR was my first car then I had a TF.
Bugger the 4cyl tho get a 6.
AWD Holden Calibra. Pretty sure you can get a non turbo AWD one.
