16 weeks ago I managed to do some considerable damage to my ute on my way to work. My local Holden dealership Sexton and Green in Tenterfield are the nominated repairer for nrma so that's where the old girl's lived for the past few months.
At first Holden told me it'd be approximately 5-6 weeks for them to fix it as they had to order a few panels - none of which could be found in australia, in fact these panels had to be MADE IN NEW ZEALAND AND SENT OVER. Honestly it's pathetic that a major company such as holden doesn't even have one spare panel ready to cover ANY of the vu-vz ute range! On the 10 week anniversary of it's demise i went to have a talk to the head panel beater and VERY SURPRISINGLY he hadn't even gotten the panels in yet. I was told a further 4 weeks at the most and it'd be back on the road. 6 weeks later AND I'M STILL UTELESS! Their major defence? I've got my yz250 registered so i don't need it desperately...
So now i've lost 1/3rd of my rego for the year and i hardly doubt i'll be getting any sort of refund for that...
Due to my experience that has quite evidently shown the complete incompetence of holden i'm doubting that i'll ever waste money on another one.
Yes i totally agree, its totally incompetent of them to not have panels of a discontinued car model laying around their dealership.
this isn't exactly some rubbish heap of an old 90's commodore - it's not even 6 years old, and there's not one panel in australia.
Sais it before in alot of threads and i'll say it again. Holden service centres = useless.
The dealerships are ok, because the blokes in there are trained salesmen, the most dishonest and money hungry profession around in my opinion.
But the service centres are useless. Half the blokes there are apprentices anyway. I'd much rather go to a decent normal mechanic than go to a Holden Dealership. But i guess you couldn't help it due to the fact NRMA use Holden.
Sorry to hear mate.
Key Phrase Why is it that others are always to blame when something doesn't happen as quickly as they would like? 6 weeks is not that bad, your ute is the only one they are working on I presume??? Get over it, let them do their job and wait like everyone else has to.
your concerns should be directed to your insurance nrma, not holden.
The Mad Dutchman
Actually i have been onto NRMA and they've also been harassing Sexton and Green to get their act together. They're actually considering forcing them to cut the side out of another ute and put it in mine.
6 weeks i could understand. SIXTEEN WEEKS is a bit over the top. To start off with there were 4 cars in the body shop all with various front ends broken off - followed by another 2 - they're all gone and mine sits in the corner collecting dust.6 weeks is not that bad, your ute is the only one they are working on I presume???
NRMA isn't the problem here, in fact they've been quite helpful all through the process, it's just those idiots out the back who are screwing me around.
just keep hounding nrma, its not there fault but they have the power to make the panel beaters work, also ask nrma to take it somewhere else.
also i find it hard to believe that there is no ute panels in australia, why would bonnets and front guards be made by holden in australia, and i can get them to sydney one day after ordering them, but the ute side panel cant. i think the panel beaters been telling ya the wrong story,
I think you're spot on. Like i've said Sexton and Green have to be the slackest holden dealership out there. I work for an electrical company with a few cars and we booked our transit in for a service not long ago. Strange how it never moved from the place we parked it BUT they were nice enough to give us a bill.
why cant they cut the panel off another ute thats written off at a wreckers and weld the bastard up?
i'd be getting onto nrma and having it moved to another holden dealership at the very least, if not possible to get it somewhere else completely.
This is good site to watch.I found it informative as I have been researching a lot lately on such matters such as you talk about.
That's been the plan for the past few weeks. The head panelbeater told me that nrma rang him up the week before we went in and told him if they don't pull their finger out and source parts they're going to weld a secondhand side in - which he didn't like the sound of because APPARENTLY that's a lot of work for him!
I'm going to ring them up again tomorrow and have a talk about getting it moved. There's a giant Nissan/Everything bodyshop up the road which i'm keen to get it in, but being NRMA i am sort of restricted to where it can go.
Sounds to me like cost cutting, there would be genuine panels available in Australia somewhere as the V8 Ute series ran standard shells and cars needing repairs after racetrack incidents need edto be turned around on a quick basis
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?
It wouldn't be hard to check if anyone is spinning you a story. Just go into another Holden dealership with your vin and ask for price and availability on the panel for your ute. If they don't have one they will be able to check every dealer in Australia using their stock locator and see if GMH have any.
Whoever said 'There is no substitute for cubes' had obviously never heard of Jet power
how exactly did it happen? looks like some sort of hectic drif7in action gone wrong and you collected a power pole....
Bottom line is panel beaters make nothing from insurance work. It isn't a priority for them. Blame NRMA not the body shop.
Ooooooo so close. Correct on the power pole though. There was an excel on the road to the left of me where i turn in for work. They just stopped mid way out of the intersection so i did some hectic drif7in action to stop another p plate fatal1ty. Big black marks from where i locked up sideways defined me as the bad driver. Probably was going a tad too fast but still...
The panel that they're after now is the internal part, not the big outside one
Why do you have to take it where nrma says, its your right to have choice of repairer its in legislation because of nrma doing that originally. I was with them and when i had a small bingle i had to pick where i wanted it to go.
And 16 weeks is way too long, that is just straight out poor service. Its not your fault they cant get the parts if that is the case. They should be bending over backwards for you by now. Atleast giving you a free hire car would be in order.
yea demand a free hire car for your troubles and 1/3 of rego
When I used to work in a panel shop it took 2 days to get the panels in... This was only 2years ago now....
Hound them man!!!!!!! Keep hounding them. Put in a report to NRMA etc...
Cheers

Would you be able to tell me how you found this out (or give me a list of dealers who have them?) as i'd like to be able to hit them with some evidence.
Just got home and rang up NRMA, apparently the people with power are only open between 9-5 so they're going to ring me tomorrow. Lady on the phone was really helpful, but the next nearest place i can get it fixed at is about 200km's away. Looks like i'll be playing the waiting game for a bit longer
Are there any structural damage?
