CSP I hear the snow is great this year, we are aiming to get up in the next 2-3 weeks before season closes.

Was planning on going down in the next few weeks, but my mate called me 2 weeks ago and asked if I wanted to go to Big White in Canada.

Needless to say I'm saving my money instead

Already booked for 4 weeks at the joint, can't wait till February now, been way too many years since I've been in Canada. Sounds like the Aussie resorts have had a few decent dumps in the last 3 weeks or so. Hopefully it keeps up, it's been a while since we've had a real good season.

its actually not that 'cold' in the snow. Air temp is like -3 but it doesnt feel cold. I spent a few weeks at hotham and i wore a tshirt around. i honestly feel colder now in adelaide 12degrees about now than i ever did in the snow.

That is of course unless it's not windy, and the snow pack is pretty dry.

I've spent many days at perisher freezing my ass off when it's windy on a chairlift, sopping wet because the snow had the consistency of a slurpee.

If you get a nice sunny day with some dry snow, it's usually pretty warm. Been quite a few days that I've gone out with just a tshirt on as well. Worst thing about Australian resorts is that the weather changes so quickly, and pretty often you'll get a bit of rain. The moisture in the air here is the killer, even going to much colder snow resorts around the world seem warmer because they don't have the humidity that we do. I've been out in -25c in Fernie, and it seemed warmer than some days I've seen at Thredbo or Perisher even when temps were in the positives.

Yes, it can feel cooler here, though its not the humidity that is responsible. The problem as you have alluded to is getting wet(which removes heat from the body at an alarming rate) , this happens all the more easily in australian conditions as the temperatures are typically just around the freezing level.

Good water proof gear is more essential in Australia then subzero reigons overseas and unfortunately a lot of ski gear doesnt fit the bill in this regard.

Yeah - new X-Trail is quite suitable for bringing to the snow. Gutless though.

Not when it's outside on the second story roof

Snow is so dry! Temp hasnt gotten above zero degrees the whole time we've been her. I haven't skied on such good snow in Australia, EVER!!! Even now, it's snowing heavily outside. I suppose with record snow falls all over the world the last 12 - 18 months I shouldn't be so surprised.

Only negative is that it's been overcast most of the time so no decent photos or movies.... But the snow is amazing!!!
