Hey,
I need to find the main sewage line that runs along a house thats on a slab...
All the plumbing is along one side of the house so I'm guessing there is a sewage line that runs along the house.
Is there a set distance between the edge of the house slab and the sewage line?
Whats the best way to find it?
I've contacted the councila and the local water authority and neither were of any help.
Thanks.
not a plumber, but
isn't there normally a sewage trap you can find? typically runs down a driveway etc.
your land data forms should give you an idea of where the mains sewer is. Chances are it'll be roughly between your toilet and there! i don't think there are any guidelines as to where it needs to go.
Most plumbers i know dig for a bit (rather- get the apprentice to dig) until they find the run then follow it to where they need to be.
Why do you need to find it?
Already located ours - being old terracotta lines makes life interesting.
Ahh, the ol concrete in the sewage pipe trick. Neighbourhood wars at its best. (Almost as good as 'bag' of cement in the swimming pool)

Thanks guys... looks like I'll be having abit of a dig then...![]()
hey, Theres no set measure from side of house. But I would think it would with 1 metre to 2 metres from side of house if thats the case. It will run to where ever the main sewer is. Try finding a sewer pit and your sewer will join in somewhere to that. Most new house areas of today have the point from your line 1 metre in and 1 off your corner boundary. so just try that and see. Hope I was a help
make sure you look into this carefully if you arent a plumber. i'm not a "council approval' person myself but have seen the results of an incorrectly connected toilet... messy lol
dial before you dig? isn't there some number you can call?
Sweet thanks for the info guys...
vlv8vic,
Yeah i've researched the grade the pipe has to be on and all that other stuff plus I will have a qualified plumber checking in on me.
pr0n,
Yeah... tried them.... they only know about stuff thats like main lines and power... private property piping they don't know about... only the big instrastructure that might go through your propertly and they don't want you danaging it...
OK, new question...
I have a shower that I'm putting in and I want to run the plumbing abit funny.
Basically I want to avoid digging through the slab SO I want to run a pipe that goes about 500mm horizontally from the shower drain before the reaching the trap...
Or does the trap need to be directly under the shower drain?
Thanks
