    Eat less and/or exercise more, there is no easy way out apart from tampering with the bodies metabolism or surgically removing fat. If you need to spend money to do that, then that is okay.
    It doesnt matter which types of foods you have less off, its the difference between total calories in versus the total expended that will end up as fat on your body or a loss of fat. ie 1500 calories of peanut butter will contribute just as much to your waist line as 1500 calories of carrot sticks.

    The amount of fat can made to look less on a specific area by increasing the amount of muscle there, exercising a particular area will not remove fat from that area, unfortunately you cant change your genetic makeup on where your body is going to store the excess you consume.

    All that stuff about must do so many minutes of exercise at a certain pulse rate etc to make the body work more inefficiently(that would mean making it use more energy to do the same amount of exercise).......pftt, makes a fitness expert sound necessary though.

    that isnt 100% true. You should NEVER eat less when taking up sporting activities (only not as much crap and more of the good stuff), if anything you need to eat MORE as your body is going through excess strain. eating less encourages a little fat loss of course, however it can have more of an adverse effect once you start eating properly as the body thinks its starving and therefore stores as much fat as possible. and yes there is a BIG difference between the foods e.g. trans fats and natural fats, it all comes down to your metabilism which is directly effected by your carb and protien intake. speed up the motabilism loose the fat... easier said than done im affraid as if you want to keep it off there are no short cuts just good old fasioned hard work and discipline.

    Havn't read replies here, but the best way to lose fat is to eat vegetables and do a lot of cardio. Scrap meats, and carb rich foods (i.e. potatoes, pasta) and stick to your greens .

    or as I mentioned before you can cut your carbs like bread, potatoes, white rice, pastas and do next to no excercise at all and watch the weight fall off. I know because I've done it like that. I lost something like 10kg in 4 weeks with no exercise. Just cut carbs out.

    Yes that too. But cardio will help too.

    Doing may cause you to lose weight but its not the best way of doing so, you will lose alot of muscle. To minimise muscle loss you want to go for a slower aproach to weight loss. Get a body fat test done on the calipers and then you can continually check your progress as to fat loss as this is what i'd be aiming to lose although if it just the numbers your interested in thats up to you.

    Im partially with minux on this one.

    When i was 15 I weighed 120kg... wanted to drop it... so my army mates got me onto the same stuff they did.

    I use to just eat whatever, coming from a poor family you buy whatever is on special. I still do that just changed options, I ended up cutting out sugar COMPLETELY.

    this and long distance runs, which took a hell of a lot of time to get to a good distance. Worked wonders, weights did nothing.. just builds your muscle, the real breaker was cardio.

    In the long run though you do need a diet thats sustainable.... i found when i was really in teh zone i was able to stick to my diet but socially it kills it. So make small changes gradually that you can stick to.

    Dont eat white bread, its nothing but crap. Always go wholemeal or multigrain, cut out heavy fats. and dont gorge yourself (after a big night out its ok).

    Cut the crap off your steak AND bacon. unless you live in Antarctica/siberia its not doing you any good.

    Dont fool yourself into eating subway. They dont make anything thats good for you.

    And most important of all experiment and see what gets you results... a lot of things wont work for you.... a lot of things will so if something you try just doesnt work... try something else.

    Our bodies are designed to need both meat and veges. We are omnivores. All foods in this life have some benefit for human metabolism, even fats and sugars.

    Its just a matter of getting your individual balance right, and that includes an excercise regime of course. Too much of anything is a bad thing.

    I used to walk 2,500 steps/hour as a Gaming Attendant at the Local RSL but now I'd be lucky to do that in a day sitting at my desk as a Digital Media Planner.

    Here's what I'm trialling to loose about 15-20kg:
    - 30-45 minute bike ride on weekdays;
    - 60 minute bike ride on weekends;
    - Eat my largest meal in the middle of the day and something smaller at night;
    - Don't eat dinner after 20:00;
    - Smaller meals at regular intervals;
    - Drink water;
    - Eat everything in moderation;

    Just reading through this thread, about the gluten. I walk for around about an hour a day. That sometimes includes or doesnt for the weekends. Most weekends ill go down the beach for a decent walk maybe 2 hours. I have been trying to make my diet a little better but i dont seem to be getting too far.

    With the gluten though, Does it have to be cut out of the system completely or if i reduce how much i have in the system will it improve or to get anything does it have to be gone completely?

    Pickle, cut it completely and replace with natural protein like chicken and fish. The worse type of gluten is more breads etc.

    I now only have gluten on occasion at worse once a day. I find if you stop it completely it is easier to come back onto it in moderation.

    This is only my opinion and what has worked for me, I would suggest seeing a dietician, well worth the money.

    Hey Minux (just wondering because you seem to know a fair bit), Has multigrain bread got any difference from a weight loss/gluten perspective compared to white bread? I started on multigrain bread because I thought it might be healthier, turns out it's a shitload nicer

    I am unsure what the differences are, both contain gluten and I think most multigrains have heavier carbs?

    I still find calorie counting with exercise is the best dieting, I rely a lot on this site

    Dukan is an easy to follow diet that encourages healthy eating. In fact in the first 10 days it's 100% proteins and 0% fats, sugars and carbs but as much as you want!!! I didn't hold back on volumes (to the point I wasn't hungry - not to excess) and lost a LOT of weight so far.

    100% agree on eliminating gluten or at least reducing it significantly.

    You can limit carbs if you're keen on simply shedding kilos.

    But if you want to maintain you weight at a certain point, some carbs aren't a bad thing. Carbs are basically the best fuel your body can run, but it's best if they come from foods that are also high in fibre - wheet bix in the morning, maybe a multigrain bread for a sandwhich, and at night not too many potatoes lol.

    I've got a few serious fitness junkie mates, and to shed body fat really quickly a lot of body builders will eat chicken and apples and lots water almost exclusively in the weeks preceding a competition to slim down really fast.

    But weight is only one component really, it's better to be slightly overweight, so long as you maintain your weight and are relatively healthy (no high BP or cholesterol). It's far worse to drop 20kgs, then put it back on 6 months later, then try to loose it again and end up stacking it back on again.

    I find the best way to loose weight is to do lots of walking, early in the morning or in the evening and drink plenty of fluids. There is also lots of evidence saying it's better to eat smaller meals more frequently to speed up your metabolism.

    decided around may i wanted to get fit, put on some muscle and lose some fat
    dont try and reinvent your entire life, make small changes every so often, my first one was too cut back soft drink from 1-2 days a day to one a week, and cut back on take away food from once twice and week too.. maybe once a month
    and started riding my bike...

    worked well so far

    its not rocket science eat better, less shit and exercise more.
    if you eat loads of shit and dont exercise youll get fat... eat less shit and exercise you lose weight

    i have to agree on the sugar debate.
    i cut out refined sugar completely (i do eat some sugar now but nowhere near as much as i used to)
    i also started manual working at a similar time. and since the start of the year have lost just over 1/4 body weight, and about 3/4 of my wardrobe =P
    how about we make the pedals out of sticky rubber and the shoes with steel spikes. at least my shins would like that

    Chicks are different but I suppose the same deal applies eventually. Reduce amount of food, reduce fat, don’t eat carbs after 12 and exercise.
    I weighed in at 95 kg eating Maccas etc three or four days a week. Decided to do something around 42 years old. Started riding a bike about 12ks a day in the morning before work. Cut the size of my meals. Stoped eating cheese with rolls and sandwiches, reduced fat wherever I could. I also cut out lunch for about two months and went for a 30 minute walk instead. Probably not the regulation method but I got down to 75 kgs. I have fluctuated between 78 and 83 since then. If you don’t exercise it is always going to be harder. Diets alone will only work if they become part of the way you live your life form now on.
    Disclaimer: I am no expert but only know what worked for me.
