HI guys, Just a quick question for people who do General Garden Matienece.
Im currently a full time garden labourer pulling in $17 an hour. Ive heard alot of mixed reviews about this trade regarding wage.
How much does a sole trading gardener pull in a week/year ? Someone who just does garden work, clean ups, and just mowing?
Cheers guys!
I got $20 a lawn in my neighbourhood when I was in high school.
i do it for free for the old pensioner up the road. Isn't warm and fuzzy enough?

Being a Garden Labourer. Labourer being the key bit, i would say if your working for a small business doing domestic stuff, then that would be a going rate, which is unfortunate for you, But if you can use that to step up and get some trade qualififications behind you asap then you can get a better job looking after golf courses or a grounds keeper somwhere.
Many people say Horticulture is a low paying trade.
Your key to more money and the ability to generate your own work is education.
This will really take you places. Join the nursery and garden industry association and get access to heaps of training.
If you choose TAFE for study then don't stop at cert III Horticulture, go do a diploma or advanced diploma. Study up on irrigation and again, check the irrigation association of Australia for guidance as to who does approved training.
Work a while in production nurseries, get some real skills, work for a golf course for a bit. You will learn more about turf than you can imagine. Those things will get you the dollars later.
You will be able to get into conservation studies or ag science.
If you want books to read and learn something visit the CSIRO publishing. Get one in particular called "Gardening down under" by Kevin Handreck.
I will shoot you a PM too![]()
