What model is that, magnum? I an any case I'd take my chances in a Commodore to outrun one of those, theoretically speaking anyway.

What do they use for highway pursuits overthere?

The cops here will call off a chase if the speeds are too high

I'll rephrase what I said. I've heard the cops will terminate a chase if the conditions are unsafe, like in built up areas if the speed gets too high. I could be wrong though, what did you hear?

What i have heard is, they will abandon a chase after it reaches 170km/h and they deem it unsafe, its all OH&S and public safety. They will use other means to track the person, heli, find their house etc.

Not true, a mate of mine was killed... not going into details, but built up area 150+ km/h and the cops "forgot" to put their lights and sirens on to warn other people. But dont worry it all got covered up, hey A dead man cant defend himself right?

    That sucks!

Generally cops are told to break off pursuit if it is deemed either dangerous to themselves or others....

after they get the plates they don't need to follow them unless its a stolen car or similar

Those are pretty cool - '09 Dodge Chargers with 6.1L hemi (*well not true hemi, the shape is actually the top third of a sphere, rather than a full half sphere true hemis have). They have somethin like a 6 speed auto and all of Damlier-benzes cool suspension bits. They are ballsy cars, although most owners of "proper" chargers dont like them at all.

highway patrol here can do any speed they want to catch you, but if you go over a certain speed they have to call it off

Check the Ask a coppa thread. Was cleared up in there. Pretty sure the 'limit' was a myth, and they could do whatever they needed to to catch someone, but most officers use beter judgement and call it off themselves.
