hi guy's my sister's 2001 1.8l Astra is due for a service but her mechanic says that he can't change the filter because he can't get some kind of oil case cover off, to get too it.
now I'm in brisbane and the car's in sydney, so is there any advise that i can pass on to her?
yeah some that have the cartridge type filter are located in a really shyte spot and you cant get a socket or spanner in there to get it off because there is no room. there is a special tool for getting them off. if he was a REAL mechanic he would figure somethign out... i have gotten them off before by getting vice grips of something in there. i dont know what to suggest...

thanks mate, apparently, what he wants to do is, snap it off, charge her $120 for the replacement part, plus labor of course, and then change it.
first suggestion, take it somewhere competent. Like calais V8 said- a real mechanic would figure it out.
Advice.
go to a proper mechanic not some dip **** who calls himself a mechanic.
this is from a holden dealer in sydney, where she usually goes. guess it's time for her to find a new one...........
Sometimes what you find is that whoever serviced it previously did the top of the oil filter housing up too tight and it's almost impossible to remove without cracking the bottom part of the oil filter housing, even using the correct tool. It happens on the VZ V6 too.
Whoever said 'There is no substitute for cubes' had obviously never heard of Jet power
The oil canister housing's at the front of the engine, just use a small 3/8 extension and a ratchet to undo it...... did it the other day, **** easy![]()
