So, what do people think about the baby whale, the media have dubbed "Colin"?

Sell it to the japs and make some money on it before it dies.

No idea why something wasnt done faster, there is to much government red tape to do anything, it has taken 5 days just to decide wtf they should do. I think Kevin Rudd also is having an enquiry into what actually happened

Seriously though, it is sad the authorities were to stupid to just do something straight away, **** the consequences, worse that would happen is that the whale died, no different to the outcome now. These creatures are disappearing, I would have thought mentalists would of wanted this creature saved at all costs. Guess they were too busy chanting about global warming or some ****.

i think it would have been nice if they could have done something, but we all knew it wasnt possible. all these wankers on the news who wanted to put a hose in the water and feed it cows milk were just trrying to prolong the inevitable. its sad, but atleast it was better then it starving to death. you have to admit though, he was really cute

Curt Jenner, managing director of Western Australia's non-profit Centre for Whale Research, said even trying to feed the whale by hand would be a logistical nightmare.

"There's no way that the logistics of feeding that animal by hand or in an aquarium is going to work," Mr Jenner said.

"There are too many difficulties with it, and the animal first of all has to be convinced to eat out of a tube, it's got to get to an aquarium, and then you've got to find a product for it to eat which you can supply for probably a year.

"So I think for humans to try and keep it alive is just going to end up as a disaster."
i found this rather interesting. i can see that there will be a heap of idiots saying that they could have done more despite the fact an expert on the subject said it wasnt possible.

Should have blown it up like they did with the whale in the Reno 911 movie. Whale steaks all round.

It is a sad fact of life bit this is just nature at work. I was talking to my fellow workers about this and just said, "ever seen a atkinson movie lately, it is pretty violent stuff"

They are usually full of animals eating each other, it is called the food chain. This whale was not going to make it once mother went away and if this happened out at sea what whould happen, it is gunna get eaten by various things in the sea, namely sharks.

Just another case of humans wanting to save stuff that can' be saved

    hehe agreed

but what i find strange is, why were the fishermen stopped from at least trying to feed it? cant have done any harm, they going to shoot it full of tranquilizers now to kill it anyways.

i don't have a soft spot for this kind of thing, couldn't really care, but the stupidity of some government agency's really ****s me. "oh we don't know what to do, so we'll stop everyone else from trying something."

Well there is only one logical thing to do.
Call Angelina Jolie and Madonna and have them battle it out for adoption rights.
Im sure they would be able to afford to feed him till he can surive on his own
Or if we can get Rosie O'donnell lactating we can get her into the harbour and get her to feed him

It is sad that more couldn't have been done.... but given the enormous amount of money (& resources) that would have taken for such a long term commitment, since Colin won't be getting it, it makes me wonder why that money couldn't be spent on people who are in need? Just because they're not as "visible" doesn't mean there aren't plenty of worthy causes that are just as deserving as Colin.....

Shouldve taken the boat the whale was hanging on into Japanese waters. Watch how fast Colin disappears then.

Dont know why the had to name it. As soon as they name is everyone gets attached to the thing.

No, but its not long before they are, Roo numbers are dropping rapidly, hence its getting harder to shoot them legally.

I think what the government was more worried about is the world attention. Here we are telling the Japanese to go F themselves, but we just killed a whale. You just know the next time whaling gets brought up the Japanese are gonna retalitate with "Ohhh what about Colin?"

Like i said wouldve been easier to drive that boat to Japan and watch how quickly Colin became Colin Stew.
