This is exactly why no one works on my car unless 1. I can visibly see my car while at the workshop and 2. No one can drive it for a test unless I am in the car.
Amazing how many people refuse work because of these conditions.

I guess Heartland Holden might be struggling for business now. the perfect punishment.
Arseholes.
he is right...but when its in the hand sof his mechanics chances of that accident rise by 100000%Heartland Group CFO Neal Duggin refused to answer question from the The Daily Telegraph regarding the accident, including if other customer cars had been involved in accidents while being driven by employees.
"Any time a vehicle is on the road it is at risk of being involved in an accident." Mr Duggin said in a statement.

Disgusting. Feel terribly sorry for the bloke, most of us can relate to why he was in tears over his car, for most of us, they are our pride and joys amongst other things, then as said in the article, 2 little ********, most likely, apprentice mechanics, take someone else's car out for a "test drive" and destroy it in 15 minutes.
There should only be a certain few select employee's allowed to test drive customers cars at all Holden dealerships, and those people being older, trusted employee's, and employee's who have worked there for a minimum of 5 years and have proven they are trustworthy.
This bloke thought he would keep things in line to avoid screwing his warranty, and look what happens. I'd be suing Holden over this for neglegence, and if the 2 joyriders were on their P's still, i'd be looking into that as well.
Poor guy. :-/ I hope the clowns who did that lose their job.

Those 2 idiots lives aren't even worth that much IMO when they treat other people's property like that.
Id say it happens every where. My brother works at a Ford dealership and he does the road tests and i know he doesnt give two hoots about the cars.Ive seen him give em heaps. Now he has been there for almost 20 years and is basicly their top mechanic,so its not just the young blokes.
I dont condone what he does in any way and i think he is a moron in general.
Shoot the bastards! I really feel sorry for this guy but unfortunately I have a feeling that this story will be all forgotten within the week and business will be as per usual at Heartland. Maybe they'll offer the guy a 10% discount of future services?
Car theives should be treated just like horse theives and cattle rustlers in the days of the wild west... Hang them!

+1 for taking your car to a trusted mechanic. The guy i take my car to is a personal friend, he comes to my place in the morning and picks up the car and then drops it off home. He doesnt expect payment on the spot, he just says 'yea, get it to me when you are around my area'. He doesnt do work that isnt needed and i trust him to treat my car with respect.
If i was the guy involved, i would be pushing to get the mechanics fired and wanting a new car or atleast a fully paid replacement until the other one could be fixed. And then id thrash the arse off the replacement(no, not really)

it should be classed as theft, and illegal use of a motor vehicle and they should be punished.

That is just wrong. The public pay (more than) good money to get their cars worked on. I think it is perfectly reasonable to expect great service and professionalism from these workshops and you shouldn't have to be looking over their shoulder to ensure it. It sounds like a great opportunity for somebody here.

Whats even worse is the guy took his car in because holden called him and asked him to bring the car in, wasnt a scheduled service.
TVR-190: That LSD service paid off. Stato just got very sideways.
Grennan: In a stato, the term is held starboard.
wow shame, if i was him i would be demanding another one and free lifetime services while i watch them work on car then go with them on any test drive, hope the workers get fired over this
Thats the bit i would have called them out on, if you have services scheduled for say, every 65,000km or something, and they say "hey your warranty is void if it doesnt come in at 45,000km" id be reminding them of the little contract you signed when you bought the car saying the conditions. When my friend bought his new VT back in the day it had a set KM condition for the warranty, and the only thing that could prompt an unscheduled service is a product recall situation.
I've just sent my resume in to All the Holden dealers here, all with a copy of my burnout vid. I'm a shoein for the next opening.

I did a bit of work for a reputable high class car dealership, It doesnt matter what it is, the employee's will nearly always flog the living hell out of it as part of there " test " drive.
hell what do you do when you buy a 2nd hand car and take it for a " test " drive, you give it hell to make sure there arent any unwanted problems etc. Easy way to test the condition of CV's diffs etc, load em up
But it sounds like those people at holden went a bit to stupid. They get what they deserve though.
Right, so everything you listed cannot wait for the owners to test drive? A wheel alignment when done right does not need a test drive. Bedding of brakes in can be done with the owner in the car as the company who do mine have done.
As for test driving a car, I test drive to listen to any noises etc, giving it to it is just plain stupid it will achieve nothing. Once I have test driven, If I like it, I get a mechanic to do a checkover, anything wrong will be found then.

I read the article in the paper yesterday, then found an ad for a salesman at Heartland Holden in the classifieds of the same paper.
The incident which caused the damage to the car is being investigated by police. I would think that the owner has a pretty fair legal recourse to follow, even though the article said that the dealership had finally agreed to make good all damage. I would certainly have my solicitor looking into civil action against the driver and the dealership, even though they had coughed up. "Loss" and "personal distress" are often grounds for civil suits and this guy would have suffered quite a bit of both.
As for the administration of Heartland Holden, their attitude is obviously deny, deny, deny. I would be making certain their "reputation" was as sullied as possible, within the law. And as for ever taking the vehicle back there, whether it was free for the rest of the warranty period or heavily discounted, would you seriously contemplate doing that? Those bastards would never see my car again, and our next meeting would be at court.
