And anyone else for that matter, if you can recommend a good hotel that allows under 18's i will give you my commodore.
Please note: i lied!
Whenever I'm in Melbourne I stay here:
Albert Park Manor
It's a nice place. Run by nice people and has a whole lot of budget options. The shared bathrooms are actually REALLY nice. I've stayed in both Superior Ensuite Rooms and the Presidential Spa Suite (for the F1 GP one year - it was the last room left. Big enough for three blokes and we all got at least a double bed!).
It is an old place but it's looked after.
It's quiet and hardly see any other guests. Which I love.
One 5 min tram to the city one way and 10min the other way to St Kilda.
Off street lockup parking too.
A 24hr 7-11 (I never really get that) next door one side. Subway, Maccas and an AWESOME family owned Italian restaurant the other side.
CHeers for that CSP,
Also, i had another idea, coz im sorta keen to stay at the mercure.
is it perhaps possible to book the room online with a Credit card and then just turn up and check-in?
ive never checked in to a hotel before, what is the actual process of check-in, do they check id's or what?
cheers
Asked my sister, but she wasn't much help....If you asked for a good pub I'd be able to answer thathahaha
ahahahah cheers anyway mate,
now what do you guys think of my check-in idea?
what i should ask is, do hotels check for ID if you have payed online?
You don't generally pay up front, just a deposit. You cannot check in online, this must be done when you arrive, and some places like you to leave a credit card or security deposit when you check in.
You pay when you leave, as by then you may have consumed items from the mini bar, made phone calls or worse.. trashed the room or stolen items. They have someone check the room then settle the bill.
Even if you pay up front online using a credit card they are most likely still going to want to take an imprint of the card for any extra charges incured during your stay so you would have to travel with that credit card
If they then think you're a little young they may ask for ID and obviously if your ID doesn't match the name on the card they are going to get a little suss
The majority of my mates I spoke too who are involved in hotels/motels, etc have all said they have a requirement for minors to be with an adult at the time of check-in and the room has to be booked under the adults name
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?
Righto, just an update, i ended up booking at "Travelodge southbank"
Anyone been there before or seen the place?
Whats it like?
address is
Travelodge Southbank Melbourne Hotel
9 Riverside Quay, Southbank VIC 3006
Someones jealousThat's a good hotel and right next to Eureka...and you get a GREAT view of the river
Althogh I don't know about service (I do know their bins don't stink) but I do know the other few downsides...
downsides: price (i think, wold expect it to be quite pricy), all the other people around southbank along the river, taxi drivers...with all the buisnessman/woman that work there it's taxi heaven...
But apart from that, you picked a great spot
I pay that a week in bills...
Ummm, you must not have the taxi problems we do
Drove past there today for work, you have a good view of crown, but yeah you can't really see the river unless you are on the top floors...
But still, you are very close to the river, which is spectacular at 3am![]()
744driver,
Glad to hear you got the hotel sorted.
I assumed you were some employee of Qantas or had some connection to them. How come you are settling for Tiger Airways? :-)
