    Default Quitting Smoking

i have made the decision to quit smoking due to fuel price rises and a recent rise in my rent so things are becoming pretty tight now. What i want to know from you guys is what ways are the best to quit, and the fastest. i need to quit as soon as possible but havent exactly got my mind set for it. let me know what your success rates have been with the products, thanks guys.

So the fact it isn't good for your health does not contribute in at all lol?

Cracks me up that even after all the warnings people only give up because it is not affordable.

honestly this is not an issue for me, we all have things that we do that are risky to our health, but seriously i think we all need to live a little. There are risks to smoking but not everyone develops health issues from smoking. My sister has cancer (lung) and has never smoked, never been with a smoker or even been near smokers so its not just smoking that causes ppl to get sick. Everyone just wants to blame the ciggies but its not necessarily the case.

Today is day one for me, I have another 2 weeks to get down to 0 per day.... I tried cold turkey and didn't work, so I am cutting down. Today I have had 4 smokes.... better than my normal 20-25.

This would be the 4th or 5th time I have attempted to stop smoking. So far the record for not smoking would be 42 weeks.... Pregnant with my 2nd son lol.

i started in year 9 because of something that happened that affected me heavily and i resorted to alcohol/smoking.

regrets arent a part of my life, but occasionally i wish i never started.

A bad cold or flu or sore throat is the best time to give them up. I just couldn't smoke at all. This made it easy to quit. I lasted almost 2 weeks with no hassles then I put a patch on after my bad virus cause I was stressed (bad thing to do) then it made me crave more and I started again. I want to the for the new year, and that's that.

My brother in-law gave up months back, He went the patches, Then the lozenges, And if he feels he is weak he will toss some lozenges down his throat.. He hasn't had a smoke at all, He lives in a house that smokes so will power is good, But noone should ever be ashamed of trying anything to overcome an addiction you really truly want to defeat.

If you really think smoking is living a little, i pity you. Go bunji jumping, sky diving, do the V8 Experience, Trek throuhg some foreign countries. That is living a little, sucking chemicals into your lungs is not living, it is plain lunacy.

i quite smoking almost 2 and a half years ago now, i gave up cold turkey. first month did suck but it got easier adn easier and easier as each day went past.
it's not easy, but it's acheivable.

a few things to look out for.
    1. you will gain weight.
    2. your breath will stink for a while. (it does go away)
    3. your body is serously gonna hate you,
    4. you will prob get a cold or something.

but you have said that you havnt exactly got your mind set for it, i would strongly sugest you dont even bother trying to quite unless your 100% ready, otherwise you will fail.

It's funny, I never thought of the whole health thing, it was more or less the money going up in smoke so to speak which I simply couldn't stand.

I've had a few...hundreds of goes at quitting, last year was a few month effort, prior to that 6 months and then at the start of this year went and grabbed Champix, as weird as it may seem you just get to a point where you think what's the point of smoking, you simply don't want one since it has no effect on your body at all ie can't smell or taste it. It's been 8 months or so I guess now, yes I've had a few but lets face it with alcohol your will power goes out the window

My best advice is you get that whole mindset that ooh one won't hurt, believe me that one will hurt...a lot!

I can agree with the weight gain 16kg's over 3 months, considered fairly healthy if it were a loss but since stopped smoking I've been on the whole health kick, watching what I'm eating (other than the first 3 months of course), bike riding in the morning and weights at night, down 25kg with plenty more to go.

Cold Turkey worked for me. I gave up after about my 3rd solid attempt and have never regained the urge to smoke.

Well from a personal experience it certainly does work, a co-worker and I did the whole champix thing together and neither us are smoking so it does work.

The first few days are still hard and the best thing to do is find something else to do straight away that you find relaxing.
