But minux didn't you know a ton of bricks weighs more than a ton of feathers?
"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."
- Theodor Seuss Geisel
if i get 2 cups 375mls in volume each. i fill one with water and one with lead which one is gonna weigh more. we all know lead is more dence than water. so ur gonna need a larger amount of water for it to weigh the same amount as the cup of lead. i didnt know what to make of ur comment so i thought i would make another example just incase i did not get my point across![]()
It is exactly what he said- hence opening with the term "volume".
i think it was a schoolyard joke, you might have heard it back in lower primary school - not worth a response mate - i can read what you are saying and you said exactly the same thing Minux said, only he used different words.
It's all part of arguing for the sake of arguing, it happens heaps on here but that is just the nature of the beast unfortunately.
I'll pm you later a couple of forums i frequent if you want some deeper debate.
When speaking generally by comparison we assume the mass is the same, so if you were to say lead weighs more that butter it would be grammatically and factually correct.
When you specify an amount it can be different "a cup of lead weighs more than a tankerload of butter" wouldn't be factually correct.
I enjoy using this part of the English studies i had to do, it's a long way down the track in the training we use for ESL kids - rarely get that advanced with them so I'm glad to be able to use it here!
i was not arguing. i was just explaining to him what i meant by "muscle weighs more than fat". because i felt i was a little misunderstood. the only way to define something weighing more than something else is to have something of the same Volume (when weighing different substances)

Banning fat people won't make much difference, they will just dine at other fast food outlets. Ban fat people from all of them and you'll hear an outcry.
Problem is that people need to get off their slack asses and do something about their own weight. If they don't care about it, no-one will. Half the time I see these reality shows try to capitalise on some very poor person and `The Biggest Loser' is nothing but capitalisation on fat people just to get them going.
Remember, the will and desire must come from heart not from your ass.
About skinny people eating this? I'd say its junk and it won't achieve anything if you have high metabolism. It'll get churned down in matter of hours and if at worst you get diarrhea![]()

Well I'm heading out to do the double triple challenge... That's a large double quarter pounder meal, a triple cheeseburger and a jumbo coke. Mmmmm!![]()
For goodness sake, you mucked up, you just needed to say muscle is denser than fat.....simple.
No need to try and impress anyone/everyone with meaningless terms such as "density gradient" . The fact that you have also found a link where they also are incapable of using the simple word density is also disturbing.
I can only assume you meant to say "we assume the volume is the same"?, otherwise it makes no sense at all. Regardless, I dont agree with your idea that a common misuse/misrepresentation should be acceptable and be taught in schools(please tell me you aren't peddling this rubbish on our youngsters?)
oh commsirac you amuse me. why do care what terms or words i use. yes it would have been better jus to say that to begin with. i spend about 10 sec at the most working out what im gonna post and whatever comes to my head first ill write it. if you have a problem with that dont come on here. it seems ur the one trying to impress everyone by starting stupid arguements. nobody likes a keybourd warrior![]()
If I cared about the bastardisation of english on this forum, I'd be commenting on nearly every post, typical of which....... your last post has 15 errors(possibly more) in the space of 3 lines!
In your case my comment(which should be clear to all) was aimed at your pathetic reasoning/justification/excuses for what you had initially written.
Yep, should have read volume, thanks for that. If you read my post correctly you would know it isn't "peddled" to youngsters.
Also if you have even half a clue you'd know it isn't 'my' idea and it certainly isn't a common misuse. It IS the language convention that is used.
Like i said (or rather meant to say which to your credit you understood) is that in English, it is "right" to assume that when a comparison is made that the speaker is referring to the same volume. they don't have to specify that it is the same volume. A little like referring to yourself as "I" - it is assumed "I" actually represents Leo Sira or Joe Blog or some equally strange completely fictional name.
Refer back to the old spelling and grammar thread for this stuff. Back to topic thanks.
i got my point across didnt I? my english aint that flash but who cares as long as people can understand what im saying. i really dont know why your makin such a big deal outta this. i could sit here all day and just nic pic at everyones posts but im abit more mature than that. im not gonna say anymore i dont know why i wasted my time replying to you in the first place
ok back on topic i havent had lunch today i think ill go get myself another one of those quad stack burgers. im not much of a fan of fast food places anymore after working in a abittoir seeing what goes into sausiges and other processed meats but ill make an exception to this burger![]()
Yeah ban fat people thats the answer!!
If its quicker to climb over someone than it is to walk around them then they're fat
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't
