agreed, some modification needed. most young people aren't going to be earning 50K. some form of tempory sterilisation wuold be better. otherwise there would be no population in 50years time.
agreed with foreign aid proposals
need a foreign policy though

It's not forced. People have a choice not to fall into the areas where sterilization is mandated.

but taken futher you're advocating sterilization of people who can't work for health or disability reasons. they don't really have a choice.
don't get me wrong, i hate to see huge families where 'learned helplessness' sees generation after generation exist on handouts, but a lot of first year outs don't make that much, nor do the handicapped/people with a mental illness. it's a slippery slope.

So where do YOU stand on teachers pay? An extra day plus an extra two hour each day. You'll want to have a good plan for our salary. Plus you don't want poetry but yet you want more emphasis on English. They go hand in hand. You've got to realise that not every person is an academic where english and maths are the most important things. Every person has talents in different areas.
Minux, be careful who you chose as you cabinet ministers. They may bring you down. I'll throw my hat in the ring for the education portfolio.

Most people I know work more than 8 hour days and a lot of them 6 and sometimes 7 days a week.
Why is it when teachers hear of a longer than 6 hour day they immediately start whinging?

These sort of naive BS comments are what really tick me off. Most seem to think that because the kids are only at school between 8am - 3pm that so are teachers. Got news for you mate, it's not a six hour a day job. Most of us are at work by 7.30am and don't leave until around 5pm.

exactly. my mum who's a year 12 teacher spends most generally 4 nights of the week marking, and her school holidays she marks for VCAT, who handle exams.

Good call, term 3 seems to be the only time i can leave around 5.... only to go home and do more school stuff! Although we have our school production coming up so that adds a few hours a day a couple of times a week.
Damn i wish i was a teacher in CSP's fairyland.

if you could read Garth's post he was suggesting the kids be there for 8 hours. i agree there is need for that. Teachers already put in more than 8 hours a day so if that entire time were contact hours there would be 2-3 hours added onto that for teachers. i do 6 days anyway so 6 days of kids push me to 7 days at work. Now i know you know everyone and everything but surely you don't have a bunch of mates working 10-11 hours a day at work, putting in a bit extra at home, and doing so 7 days a week.
In response to Garth's idea - i'd like kids to be at school more so we can get through everything we're expected to get through, but you'd have to double the workforce and teamteach it.
This would work well with the Negotiated Curriculum I'm trying to sell to Minux which would put end end to his archaic ideas about a National Curriculum.
