    Default 17 hrs after surgery

    i have just got home after having surgery. I had my appendix removed and only 17 hrs after the surgery comenced i am sent home still in a fair amount of pain. does this sound like a reasonable length of time or should it of been longer??

    dunno i've still got mine but surely if you stressed to them that your still in a fair amount of pain they'd give you something for it. might be worth ringing that health hotline and asking them, can't remember the number off the top of my head but it should be in the white or yellow pages

    yeah they gave me panadeine forte as the pain killer, im just a little concerned cause its only 17 hrs later, most ppl i know have been in for 2 to 3 days after the surgery.

    they move ppls out of hospital a lot quicker now , as long as u are up and about and not sick , thats it your out so to speak..... if your worried call your doctor or the hospital you were in and get put through to the ward and speak to a nurse.... hope your feeling better soon .... xx

    I was released in less time when I had my gale bladder removed, standard.

    ah ok thanks guys thats been helpful, i was just a little concerned that maybe they were taking shortcuts etc but its obviously all ok. thanks heaps!

    Geez 17 hours, they sure kept you in. My sister had surgery at 5 till about 7 at night, and was released the next morning. Her appendix burst, so it was removed and cleaned up.

    i was for 3 days after having a pilionidal sinus removed, granted the for two day any food or medicine they gave me made me instantly spew,

    Depends all on how you reacted to the surgery & how you are recovering. Hospitals need the beds, & Im not sure about you, but I quite prefer MY bed to the hospital ones. Id rather be home than staying in hospital.

    They should have supplied you with a bit of a checklist however.... something like take 'x' drugs at 'x' time & call this number if any of 'x' happens......

    They cut you up much less these days like a little nic compaired to when I had mine out. (34 years ago)

    I think they used a rip saw to get my appendixs out.

    luckily for me they didnt use a rip saw on me. it wasnt keyhole either, but i guess ya get that. there was another guy who got his out as well, no pain or anything and he was 35 yrs older than me, talk about bein jealous!!!!!

    personally i think youre safer from infections and bacteria outside a hospital. you can catch some nasty stuff in there. heaps of people who are sick or have open wounds from surgery etc end up with hospital type MRSA. nasty nasty bacteria. kills you if youre not careful
