Is it legal to make your own number plates (obviously with your actual rego)? I have the basic crappy boring looking number plates and dont want to pay $200 to change the color or the plates...
Nope its not. Must be vicroads plates, and can not even be modified in anyway.
A mate bent the bottom corner to mould to his bullbar, the bit he bent was tiny, pretty much a little bit more then the bolt hire. He got a warning and was told to purchase new plates (he didnt do it), but just using that as an example how picky they on using their plates and not modifying them.
Yeah didn't think it was...As for the story with your friend...he could've just said it happened in an accident or something...mine has dints and stuff, a guy reversed into my bumper the other dayluckily only minor scratching, but the top border of the number plate has been rubbed off and is now the colour of the car that hit me...
But yeah, stupid that they charge so much for them...They don't even make the ones that I want...
No. My mum had some plates made for her VP quite a few years ago. They were exactly the same size, shape and colour as standard plastic plates except they didn't have the ACT government logo on them (or something). She was given a defect in the carpark at her old work for them.
i think it's basically that if you were to make them yourself they wouldn't be reflective, or could be way too reflective. then they either don't show up on speed cameras, or show up as just a glarey patch.
does seem a bit of a licence to print money by the government tho, folks not really having any ability to use any product but theirs.
Yeah from Sale, I feel sorry for you that you had to drive through such a terrible town haha.
Its obviously been bent, its perfect shape to the bullbar haha, but its to stop it getting snagged when up bush, plus it looks neater. The bit the he has bent is a little trianlge no more then 2cm's probly.
Also Coloured ones are only 99 bucks arnt they?
so basically your saying that the government MAKES people use their number plates just so they can get money from it?? theres a bit more to it than that dont ya think?
in regards to making your own plates..... another reason why you can't is there would end up being lots of cars running around with the same combos..... how would you feel about someone making their own plates and using your letter/number combo then going and robbing places, stealing fuel, general dodgey illegal sh1t....?
is their a clause in the law giving LPG installers the right to pot rivet the LPG diamond on the plates, or is that seen as modification too?
yeah i'm not saying that's the only reason they make people use their plates, just that since people have no choice in other manufacturers, vicroads/whoever essentially can charge whatever they want for custom plates.
but as i covered in my first post, there are other reasons why home jobbies aren't up to code.
ive worked on this dudes lexus is200 with 20s n ****, he coloured his plates in with nicko pen to make em look personalised...:-s looked stupid
the problem is that even if it personalised the government still own them like a $ 5 10 20 50 100 note it is illegel to fold one not only mod
